Adjustable ring
Surface single crochet (surface sc) Insert hook from front to back through the fabric, then to front again around the post of the indicated stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook. This stitch is similar to a post stitch, but is worked on top of the crocheted fabric, not within therow.
Hat base with A
Round 1. Work 9 hdc in magic ring. Pull to tighten. Join to first hdc. Round 2. Chain 2, work 1 hdc into same stitch. \*Work 2 hdc in next stitch\* repeat from \* around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. (18 hdc) Round 3. Ch 2, 2 hdc in next stitch, \* 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st\* repeat from \* around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. (27 hdc) Round 4. Ch 2, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, \*1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st\*repeat from \* around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. (36 hdc) Round 5. Ch 2, hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st, \* 1 hdc in next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st\*, repeat from \* around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. (45 hdc) Rounds 6-14. Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. Round 15. Ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join in top of first sc. Weave in ends.

Note: Hold B with RS facing and strand extending that away from ball; working in second row of holes from top of yarn strand, insert hook in third hole from end, then insert hook into next hole by going over the top of the strand and inserting hook from front to back, draw second loop on hook through first loop Onhook Round 1 Beginning on RS of hat in 4th hdc row from bottom, surface sc around ch 2 at beginning of round, \*ch 3, skip 2 hdc, surface sc around next hdc post. Repeat from \* around, ch 2 surface sc in first hdc. Round 2 Ch 4, skip next row above, surface sc around hdc above first surface sc in row 1,\* ch 3, skip next 2 hdc, surface sc in next st. Repeat from \* around, ch 2 surface sc in first hdc. Cut yarn carefully and turn under. Thread a scrap piece of A through last loop and tie ends together on inside of end hat and weave in ends, making sure to catch starting tail from row 1.
