MATERIALS
\* 2 (2, 2, 2)-1.75oz/50g (98.5yds/90m) balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (55% Merino Wool/33% Microfiber/12% Cashmere) in Orange #615. Please note: Size XS uses EXACTLY 1 ball (NOT including yarn to make the Gauge swatch). So it is possible to only use 1 ball for the xs size if you reuse the Gauge swatch yarn and are careful not to waste any yarn. Purchasing 2 balls is still recommended to be safe! GAUGE
\* 4 sts = 1" (i.e. 4 - [1 sc, 2 dc] sets = 3") and approximately 9 rows = 4" in Silt pattern stitch. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE
SILT PATTERN STITCH:
Ch a multiple of 3 plus 3 extra.. Row 1 (Rs): Sk 1st 3 ch, 1 dc in next and each ch to end, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in 1st st, \*sk next 2 sts, (1 sc, 2 dc) in next st; rep from \* to last 3 sts (counting t-ch as a st), sk next 2 sts, 1 sc in top of t-ch, turn. Row 3: Ch 3, sk 1st st, 1 dc in next and each st to end, ending with last dc in top of t-ch, turn. NoTE: This last t-ch is EAsY to miss - it's the ch-1 from the beginning of Row 2. FINISHING
With a new strand of yarn for sewing, and the yarn tapestry needle, fold the hat with the right sides facing each other. Hat will be inside-out. (Please refer to diagram on page 6.) Starting at top back point (at the middle of the last Row) of hat, sew seam joining 2 halves of Row 19 (19, 21, 21) and continue along side edges of Row 19 (19, 21, 21) through Row 14 (14, 15, 15). A basic back stitch is ideal. Fasten off.
CROCHET STRAP
Turn hat right-side out so seam is now inside. Fold back first 5 rows for brim. At right side of brim (right side of baby's head), attach yarn to begin strap. Row 1: Ch 1, work 3 sc along folded brim (through both layers of fabric), turn. Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc across, turn. Rows 3 to 11 (12, 13, 14): Rep Row 2. Row 12 (13, 14, 15) (Create Buttonhole): Ch 1, 1 sc in 1st sc, ch 1, sk next sc, 1 sc in next sc, turn. Row 14: Ch 1, 1 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in ch-1 sp, 1 sc in next sc, turn. Row 15: Rep Row 2.
