Ridge & Furrow Neckwarmer
Knit in a simple garter ridge pattern designed by Sue Grandfield [RiotousAssembly]
materials:
25 g Colourmart Cashmere/Silk/Viscose/Merino DK (MC) \~ 5g each of 5 different colours DK or light worsted (CC1 - CC5) 3 x %" / 2.25cm buttons 5.00mm circular needles Tapestry needle size: measures 5.75" x 26" - [ 14.5 x 66 cm] gauge: not critical but is ≈ 17sts per 4"/10cm over st st stripe Neckwarmer is worked lengthways
Instructions:
Using5.00mmneedlesandMCcaston102sts. Work 5 rows k all sts. Join in CC1 and work 2 rows k all sts. Break off CC1. Begin garter stripe pattern:
Garter Stripe Pattern:
R1) (MC): k all sts to end of row R2) (MC): p all sts to end of row R3) (cC2): k all sts to end of row R4) (CC2): k all sts to end of row Work rows 1-4 a total of 8 times, using a different contrast colour to knit rows 3 &4 in each repeat. I used the following sequence of colours: CC1, CC2, CC3, CC4,CC5,CC4, CC4, CC2, CC1 Break off CC1. With MC, work 6 rows gt st (k all sts). Cast off knitwise.

Work first end without buttonholes:
With right side facing using 5.00mm needles & MC, pickup&purl 33sts alongthe short edge ofthework. Work 5 rows gt st (k all sts). Cast off knitwise.

Work second end with buttonholes:
With right side facing using 5.00mm needles & MC, pick up & purl 33 sts along the short edge of the work. R1): Work 1 row gt st (k all sts) R2): k7, cast off 2sts, k7, cast off 2sts, k7, cast off 2 sts, k to end of row. R3): k6, turn work, cast on 2 sts, turn work, k7, turn work, cast on 2 sts, turn work, k7, turn work, cast on 2 sts, turn, k to end of row. R4): knit all sts R5): knit all sts Cast off purlwise. Weave in ends. Press lightly, covering with a cloth to protect the yarns. Sew on buttons. Enjoy

How to work the Purl Blip Edging:
1. The edging is only worked on the short edges of the scarf [ie the unfinished edges of the scarf]:

2. With the right side facing, using 4.50mm needles and MC, pick up and purl 61 sts along the edge of the scarf:

To match the stripes, you should pick up and purl - a) 2 sts in each of the MC stripes; insert the tip of the RHN into the middle of each k st; pick up the bar in the centre of the st b ) 1 stitch through each of the purl bumps in the gt st stripes c) 3 sts in the MC gt st edging at either end 3. Work 3 rows knitting all stitches (gt st). 4. Cast off. Work other end of scarf to match. 5. Weave in ends. Press lightly.
