Crochet Pattern for Adorable Bumble Bee Beanie for All Ages - Baby to Adult Sizes Included

BUMBLE BEE Beanie

I used machine washable acrylic, but if you prefer wool... Materials: Double knitting yarn/8 ply 1 skein each of yellow and black, small amounts of white and tan. 1 size 7 (4.5mm) hook wool needle for embroidery and finishing off. Polyfil for stuffing. Stitches Used: US terminology CH - chain, DC - double crochet, SC - single crochet, SL ST - slip stitch, st - stitch/stitches SC dec - single crochet decrease, {insert yarn into top of next st pull up loop) twice, yarn over hook and pull through all 3 loops} st - stitch/stitches,

Sizes:

A/ Baby - 6 to 12 months B/ Toddler -12 months to 3 years C/ Child -- 3 years to 8 years D/ Youth - 8 years to 12 years E/ Adult All sizes are based on average head sizes All instructions are for size A. Changes for the various sizes are given in brackets.

Starting at the top of the Beanie:

I use a magic circle to start with which gives a nice tight result on the finished item. BEANIE: Using Black

Starting with a magic circle Round 1: 1SC 1CH (counts as first DC here and throughout the pattern), 7 DC in ring (9DC, 10DC, 11DC, 12DC), Join with SL ST into top of CH at beginning - 8st (10st, 11st, 12st, 13st) Round 2: 2 DC in every st around. Join - 16st (20st, 22st, 24st, 26 st) Join in Yellow yarn Round 3: 2DC in next st , \*DC in next st, 2 DC in next st \* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join - 24st (30st,33st,36st,39st) Round 4: 2DC in next st ,\*DC in next 2 st, 2 DC in next st\* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join -32st (40st, 44st, 48st, 52st) Using Black yarn Round 5: 2 DC in next st, \*DC in next 3 st, 2 DC in next st\* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join - 40st (50st,55st,60st,65st) Round 6: 2 DC in next st,\*DC in next 4 st, 2 DC in next st\* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join - 48 st (60st, 66st, 72st, 84st) Continue working in stripes of 2 rounds alternating Yellow and Black Round 7-12: DC in each DC (Round 7-14, Round 7-15, Round 7-16, Round 7-16) If you want your beanie longer, simply add extra rounds here. Round 13 (15, 16, 17, 17): 1 SC in each DC around. Repeat this round once more. Fasten off and weave in ends.

EYES: Make 2

Using Black, Starting with a magic circle Round 1: 1CH, 8SC into circle. Cut Black and join in Tan yarn, join with SL ST into top of 1st SC - 8st Round 2: Using Green yarn, work a round of SL ST into the back loop only of the previous round, join -8st Round 3: 1CH, Again working into the back loop only of the 1st round (Black yarn) and working over the top of the SL ST of round 2, 1 CH, 2SC in each st to end of round. Cut Tan and join in White yarn, join with SL ST into top of 1st SC - 16st By doing this you will achieve a nice clean line between the 2 colour: Round 4: Using White yarn, work a round of SL ST into the back loop only of the previous round, join-16st Round 5: 1CH, Again working into the back loop only of the previous round (Tan yarn) and working over the top of the SL ST of round 4, 1CH, \*1SC in next 1SC, 2SC in next SC \* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join - 24st Round 6: 1CH, 1SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 24st Round 7: 1CH, \*1SC dec over next 2 SC, 1SC \* to end of round. Join - 16st Round 8: 1CH, \*1SC dec over next 2 SC\* to end of round. Join - 8st Fasten off leaving a tail. At this point stuff the eye and using the tail, run the yarn through the top of each SC of the last row and cinch closed. Fasten Off. EYELIDS: Using Black, Make 2 Starting with a magic circle Round 1: 1CH, 8SC into circle. Join with SL ST into top of 1st SC - 8st Round 2: 1CH, 2SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 16st Round 3: 1CH, \*1SC in next 1SC, 2SC in next SC \* Repeat \* to \* end of round. Join - 24st Round 4-5: 1CH, 1SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 24st Fasten off leaving a long tail. Using the photo as a guide, pull the eyelids onto the eyes and when you are happy with the way they sit, slip stitch in place using the Black tail. Make sure both eyes look the same. Sew the 2 eyes to the beanie at the centre front just below Round 3. Make sure that they are close together. Before you fasten off completely using 1 or 2 stitches, catch the eyes together at the eyelids. This will ensure that the eyes look forward and not to the sides when the beanie is worn. Fasten off and weave in ends. FEELERS: Using Black, Make 2 Starting with a magic circle Round 1: 1CH, 6SC into circle. Join with SL ST into top of 1st SC - 6st Round 2: 1CH, 2SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 12st Round 3-4: 1CH, 1SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 12st Round 5: 1CH, \*1SC dec over next 2 SC, \* to end of round. Join - 6st Round 6-12: 1CH, 1SC in each SC to end of round. Join - 6st Fasten off leaving a long tail. At this point stuff the feeler and using the tail sew to the beanie at either side of the top of the beanie at Round 3. Fasten off and weave in ends. Enjoy your Beanie.
