Materials
100 gm light fingering wt sock yarn US size 1 (2.25mm) or size needed to obtain gauge US size 1.5 needles (2.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge Stitch Markers Cable Needle Tapestry Needle Gauge: 8.5 sts & 12 rows/inch in stockinette, using 2.5mm needles
Finished size for large
8 inch leg circumference, blocked and relaxed 8 inch foot circumference, blocked and relaxed 6 1/4 inch leg length
Notes
When more than one number is given, the first applies to the small size, the second to the medium, and the third to the large. The size of the sock can be adjusted by using a smaller or larger needle for a different gauge.
Abbreviations
eor-end ofround/row 2/2L (c2 over 2, left)- Slip 2 sts onto cable needle, hold in front. Knit 2 sts. Knit 2 sts from cable needle. 2/2R (c2 over 2, right)- Slip 2 sts onto cable needle, hold in back. Instructions
Cuff: Using 2.25mm needles, loosely cast on 64 (70, 80) stitches. Join, being careful not to twist your stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of round. Work [Rounds 1-4 of Chart A] 5 times. Using 2.5mm needles, work set-up for leg: Small/Large: \*k6, p2; repeat from \* to eor. Medium: \* k6, p1; repeat from \* to eor. Leg: Work [Rounds 1-24 of Chart B] twice. Repeat Rounds 1- 7\* of Chart B once. Work 32 (35, 40) sts in pattern. PM to indicate start of instep. Work 30 (34, 38) sts in pattern. PM to indicate end of instep. 30 (34, 38) instep sts/34 (36, 42) heel sts Note: \*to knit a different leg length, work Chart B until desired length, ending on row 7 or 19. Set-up for heel (right side): Small: k1, p1, p2tog, [p4, p2tog, p3, p2tog] twice, p4, p2tog, p1,k1. 28 heel sts Medium: k1, p6, p2tog, [p5, p2tog] 3 times, p5, k1 32 heel sts Large: k1, p1, p2tog, p4, [p2tog, p6] 3 times, p2tog, p4, p2tog, p1,k1. 36 heel sts Heel: will be worked over 28 (32, 36) sts. Place remaining 30 (34, 38) sts on a holder for instep. Heel flap is worked back and forth. Heel Flap: Row 1 (wrong side): slip 1, p across. Turn. Row 2: slip 1, \*k1, slip 1; repeat from \* to last 3 sts, ending with k3. Turn. Repeat rows 1-2 until heel flap measures 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches or desired length, ending on row 2. Row 1 (WS): slip 1, p16 (18, 20), p2tog, p1, turn. Row 2: slip 1, k7, ssk, k1, turn. Row 3: slip 1, p8, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 4: slip 1, k9, ssk, k1, turn. Continue working one more stitch until all the stitches have been worked. You should end on a knit row with 18 (20, 22) sts remaining. Do not turn work.Begin gusset. Gusset: Pick up and knit one stitch in each slipped stitch along side of heel. PM to indicate start of instep. Work 30 (34, 38) sts in pattern as established. Pick up and knit same number of stitches along remaining side of heel. PM to indicate end of instep. Knit 9 (10, 11) stitches and place marker. The beginning of the round is now the middle of the heel.
Gusset decreases:
Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, p1. Slip marker, work 30 (34, 38) sts in pattern as established. Slip marker, p1, ssk, knit to end of round. Round 2: Knit around as established. Repeat these two rounds until 58 (66, 74) stitches remain. 30 (34, 38) instep sts/28 (32, 36) sole sts. Foot: Continue working in pattern as established until foot measures approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches less than desired foot length, ending on row 8 or 20 of ChartB. Set-up for toe: Knit to first instep marker. Slip marker. P9 (10, 11), p2tog, p8 (10, 12), p2tog, p9 (10, 11). PM to indicate new beginning of round. 28 (32, 36) instep sts/28 (32, 36) sole sts Knit even until foot measures approximately 1 1/4 ( 1 1/2, 1 3/4) inches less than desired foot length. Begin toe.
Toe:
Round 1 (Decrease round): k1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches before first instep marker, k2tog, k1. Slip marker, k1, ssk, knit across in pattern as established to last 3 stitches before second instep marker, k2tog, k1. Round 2: k Work rounds 1-2 until 28 (32, 36) sts remain. Work decrease round only until 16 (20, 24) sts remain. Use Kitchener stitch to graft toes. Weave in loose ends.
