Crochet Quickie: Pumpkin

After testing my mini ghost and bat patterns, my favorite pattern tester had just one question for me... "where's the pumpkin?" Of course, I couldn't let her down — and so the third part of this trio came to be!

PART 1: PUMPKIN

Because this piece is worked in a continuous spiral, you may want to use a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds. Work the stem in Peapod and then change over to Orange at round 4.

second chain from hook. Place stitch marker in the last SC to mark the end of the round. Rounds 2-3: SC in each ST around (4 SC). MM. Note: Break yarn after round 3. Join Orange. Round 4: \*2 SC in first ST, on SC in next. Repeat from \* once more (6 SC). MM. Round 5: 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM Round 6: \*2 SC in first SC, 1 SC in next. Repeat from \* around (18 SC). MM. Round 7: \*2 SC in first SC, 1 SC in each of next 2 STS. Repeat from \* around (24 SC). MM. Round 8: SC in each ST around (24 SC). MM Round 9: \*2 SC in first SC, 1 SC in each of next 3 STS. PART 1: PUMPKIN(CONTINUED)

Round 18: \*DECR across first 2 STS, SC in next. Repeat from \* around (12 SC). MM. Round 19: DECR around (6 SC). FO, leaving a long tail for finishing.

PART 2: BODY FINISHING

1. Gather the remaining stitches from round 19 using the leftover tail and yarn needle. 2. Push the needle through the pumpkin — from the bottom up toward the stem (see below).

3. Wrap the yarn around the outside of the pumpkin to make a groove and bring the needle back down to the bottom (see below).

4. Repeat steps 2-3 a few more times to get a natural, grooved look. Knot yarn under the pumpkin and weave in end.
