Worsted weight yarn, black (A) and gold (B) (Cascade 220 black and the gold is GGH Via Male from stash) Size 6 needles Gauge ${=}4$ stitches per inch Cast on 92 stitches. Join and knit in the round in K2 p2 ribbing for 3 inches. Switch to color B and knit about one inch. Following chart below, and using color A, make the intarsia letters. For each two rows of letters, cut a strand of B about 100 inches. Start in the middle of the strand for the first row, and use the other half on the second row. (Intarsia haters can do duplicate stitch.) Knit in solid A until hat measures $6\,\%$ or 7 inches, and then decrease two stitches in one round (90 stitches remain). Begin decreases as follows: place 5 markers (18 stitches between markers). Ssk before the marker and k2tog after the marker. Knit the next row. Repeat these two rows 4 times. Work one more decrease row. 8 stitches remain between markers, 40 stitches total. Switch to color B and continue to decrease one row, knit one row. When 10 stitches remain on needles, k2tog around until 3 stitches are left. Make an I-cord about 6 inches, to make a top knot. Or gather the remaining stitches and finish with a pom pom or another topper. Work in ends and Geaux Saints.
