the dummy Clap Shawl Pattern by Anna Maliszewski

This pattern originated from a need for a quick & easy shawl for a closely approaching wedding. Its drop-stitch lace effect is inspired by the "Clapotis" shawl pattern from Knitty.com. Although I loved the dozens of dropped stitches in the pattern, I didn't want the dozens of instructions to follow. I just wanted something as simple as possible. Something as simple as only dropping stitches on the very last row! This pattern will provide instructions for the original "2 dropped stitches" laddering or a "1 dropped stitch" laddering version, as requested from fellow knitters.

St(s)=stitches B02/B03=bind off 2 or 3 sts CO1=cast on 1 st PSSO=pass 2nd st over Pattern notes: feel free to add or decrease the amount of casted on stitches to suit your needs, as the multiples of each version is provided below. The construction of the shawl is set up so that you knit in stockinette stitch for the entire length of the shawl before you drop any stitches. The photos below are swatches of just 13 stitches. Watch the video tutorial if you are unsure of any part or technique used in this pattern. Repeats of certain instructions are marked \*to\*.

Two Dropped Stitches Laddering:(original version):
Cast on 78 sts using the "knitted cast on" method. Knit for 50-60 inches in stockinette stitch (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side), depending on your preferred length. End on the wrong side. To work the laddering while binding off: B02, \*drop 2sts, (CO1 using "twisted loop method," PssO)-5 times,\* across the row until the last 3 stitches,BO3. Pull yarn through last stitch on needle and weave in all threads.

One Dropped Stitch Laddering:
Multiple of 4 sts, plus 3. Cast on 79 stitches using the "knitted cast on" method. Knit for 50-60 inches in stockinette stitch (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side), depending on your preferred length. End on the wrong side. To work the laddering while binding off: BO2, \*drop 1st, (CO1 using "twisted loop method," PssO)-3 times,\* across the row until the last 3 stitches,BO3. Pull yarn through last stitch on needle and weave in all threads.
Other Useful Information:
Would you rather try it in just garter stitch (knitting every row) instead of stockinette stitch? It has a more funky look, with the ladders almost forming a tube. The shawl will benefit from a few extra touches: blocking & single crocheting along the top and bottom of the shawl. If you know how to do this, gofor it!
