Bimple Flower t torsage
by Janet McMahon These pretty crocheted flower brooches are so simple and quick to make. They would make a lovely gift. The flowers could also be used as applique.

Each brooch measures approximately 6 cm (2.5 inches). Here's how to make themYou will need double knitting weight yarn in a solid colour and in a complimentary variegated colour. I used Sirdar Countrystyle dk for the larger flower and Sirdar Click dk for the smaller flower. The Click dk is ideal, as you can see there is plenty of variation in the colours in a short length of yarn.

3 mm crochet hook A button A safety pin Please note that these crochet instructions use UK crochet terms, as follows: dc = double crochet (US equivalent is sc) tr = treble (Us equivalent is dc) dtr = double treble (US equivalent is tr)

Larger flower
To begin, chain 4 and join into a ring with a slip stitch. 1st round: 3ch (counts as 1st tr), 11 tr into ring. Join with a slip st into 1st tr. (12 tr) 2nd round: 1 ch, 1 dc into same stitch as chain, [3 ch, miss 1 tr, 1 dc into next tr] 5 times, 3 ch. Sl st into 1st dc. (6 spaces) 3rd round: [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 tr, 3 dtr, 1 tr, 2 ch, 1 dc] into each 3 ch space, sl st into 1st dc. Fasten off.

Smaller flower
To begin, chain 4 and join into a ring with a slip stitch. 1st round: 1 ch, 6 dc into ring. Join with a slip st into 1st dc. 2nd round: 1 ch, 1 dc into same stitch as chain, [2 ch, 1 dc into next dc] 5 times, 2 ch. Sl st into 1st dc. (6 spaces) 3rd round: [1 dc, 2 ch, 3 tr, 2 ch, 1 dc] into each 2 ch space, sl st into 1st dc. Fasten off.

Place the smaller flower in front of the larger flower and sew together at the centre only. Sew the button in the centre and the safety pin to the back. And that's it! Nice and simple - but it looks very effective. Once you make one-you won't be able to stop!
