Insta-Grat Hat

This hat came to be out of an evening of boredom and two random skeins of super bulky yarn. I sat down to create a quick INSTANT GRATIFICATION hat out of the yarn. From start to finish, the hat took me approximately two hours to create. You could easily cast on and be done with this hat and wear it the next day. This hat is silly easy to knit. Suitable for beginners and experienced knitters alike. The hat is knitted flat and seamed up the back. Basic skills are needed...Knit, Purl, and K2tog decreases. You can embellish as you wish, with buttons, beads, ribbon, etc. I left mine plain, since the yarn is a novelty-type with glitter in it. I will list the yarn I used for this hat, but any suitable super bulky yarn will do, including handspun yarns. Just match the gauge given. Happy Knitting!
Materials:
Yarn: Jo-Ann Sensations Angel Glitz, 44 yards, 50 grams (53% acrylic, 29% nylon, 16% wool, 2% other fiber); 2 skeins. Needles: US # 11 (8mm) straight needles. Gauge: 10 sts and 15 rows = 4 inches on given needles.
To Make Hat:
Cast on 48 sts. \*K2, P2; repeat from \* across the row, to end. Repeat this ribbing for approximately 2 inches. Change to Stockinette stitch, and work (knit on the right side and purl on the wrong side), until the piece measures approximately 7 inches from the cast on edge. Begin the crown decreases, as follows: \*K2tog; repeat from \* to end of row - 24sts. Purl next row. \*K2tog; repeat from \* to end of row - 12 sts. \*P2tog; repeat from \* to end of row - 6sts remain. Finishing: Cut yarn, leaving a long enough tail to sew up the back seam. Thread the yarn onto a needle and go through all remaining stitches, pull tightly. Turn hat inside out and sew the seam of the hat. Sew in any remaining ends. And you are done!
