Bullion Spiral Flower

Flower made in spiral with bullion stitches in its petals. It can be worked in one or two colors.

Materials:

Size 10 threads, one or 2 colors (violet and white version) Crochet Hook: Steel hook, size 1.40 mm (US 9). Any size thread and hook can be used. Experience level: Intermediate to Experienced. Experience working with padding cord is helpful. Abbreviations: ch = chain, dc = double crochet, PC = padding cord, sc = single crochet, sk = skip, sl st = slip stitch, st = stitch, sts = stitches Notes: US terminology used. Make your padding cord out of color A beforestarting, using about 160 inches of thread folded in fourths. Do not make starting chains unless instructed. Flower is worked in rounds.

Flower:

With color A, ch 7, joining with a sl st. 1: ch 1, work 10 sc in the ring. 2: ch 1, work 16 sc in the ring over the previous stitches. Join with color B in the front loop. Take the time to make sure you have 16 sts. 3: With color B and working in the front loops of round 2, (ch 3, slst in next st) around. Cut color B and weave in ends. 4: Working in the back loops of round 2, with color A, ch 16, sk 2 sts, dc in next st, (ch 13, sk 2 sts, dc in the next st) 4 times, ch 13, sl st in beginning 3rd ch , leaving a 13 st loop. (5 13 st loops, 5 dc) Photo below shows completion of steps 1 through 4.

By: Melba Vincent, Grammy's Textiles 6: Turn, 2 sc, pick up PC, sc in next st, (2 sc in next st) 8 times, 6 sc on PC alone, drop PC, turn. Photo below shows steps 5 and 6.

7: Skipping the sts on the PC, (sk 1 st, 9 wrap bullion in next st, pick up PC (yo under PC) and complete the st pulling through the 2 remaining loops, ch 1, 3 sc on the PC) 7 times, sk 1 st, sc in next st, drop the PC, sc in the remaining sts and down the salvage edge, sl st on next back loop on the ring. Tip: After making the 3 sc on the PC, gently give the PC a tug.

Photo above shows the petal before turning to the back to do the sl sts. 8: With the back facing you, slst back to the PC and to the next ch 13 space. Repeat steps 5 through 8 four more times, ending with slip stitching the PC to the back side and a sl st on the right. Cut off 2 to 3 inches of PC and weave in all the ends.
