Norma's 3-Way Scarf
Norma may be worn as a scarf, a cowl or a hood to keep the ears warm. With Norma around your neck in the scarf position you twist the scarf into a figure eight and pull the bottom half of the eight up over your head to wear it as a cowl. To wear as a hood from the cowl position, then pull it up from the back of the neck and over your head to cover your ears. Norma will have you prepared for whatever Mother Nature decides to dish out! Gauge
12 sts x 16 rows = 4 inches] / 10 cm in stockinette stitch. NOTE: If you are not a tight knitter, please consider the use of a US #10.5 [6.5 mm], or US #10 [6 mm] to get my gauge. Please take time to check gauge to get the same patternresult.
Pattern Notes
\* The cable or crochet cast-on for knitting are recommended because they each create a mirror image of the common bind off and make the two edges of this scarf identical, thus giving you a more professional looking finished product. The cable cast on is less forgiving then the crochet cast-on but I found that it also prevents the scarf from loosing it's shape after a lot of wear. \*+ I have also added one stitch to the cast on number to accommodate a technique I use to tighten the join. This little trick decreases one stitch while tightening up the join for a “no gap" finish. If you choose not to use this technique, please cast on 124 sts. Technique described in pattern instruction.
Norma's Scarf
Cast on 125 sts and check your sts prior to joining, look for and eliminate twisted sts prior to joining. When ready slip the first stitch on your LH needle to your RH needle, then pass the first stitch of the RH needle over the slipped stitch, now place this stitch back onto LH needle, pm on RH needle and begin. Rnd 1: \*k2, p2; \*repeat from \* to end. Rnds 2 - 12: \* k2, p2; \* repeat from \* to end. Rnds 13 - 15: \* p2, k2; \* repeat from \* to end. Rnds 16 - 21: \* k2, p2; \* repeat from \* to end. Rnds 22 - 24: \* p2, k2; \* repeat from \* to end. Rnds 25 - 35: \* k2, p2; \* repeat from \* to end. Bind off loosely in k2, p2 rib pattern.

I know that it was before I could reach the sewing machine pedal on my mother's machine. At the time I was bent on learning to sew, and knitting was my second fascination. I learned to sew, and make my own clothing, but I never really left the needles alone, I kept returning to them for brief periods throughout my life. In 1993 I left the business world to be a full-time mother. I was able to be present for my two boys in their developing years, and in addition, explore a range of other skills. I also enjoy cooking, gardening and walking my dogs, but I returned to my yarn and needles and soon began to yearn for more time with them.
