Flower Cardigan Crochet Pattern for Children Ages 3 and 5 - Detailed Instructions and Diagrams

I wrote this pattern in two sizes:

1. To fit Size 3 years old child (92-98cm/32-38 inches high child) 2. To fit Size 5 year old child (110 cm/43 inches high child) Measurements Size 3 years Width at armhole 32 cm; Depth of Yoke 18 cm Length 38 cm Sleeve length 20 cm from underarm to wrist; Sleeve length 36 cm from neck to wrist Size 5 years Width at armhole 34 cm; Depth of Yoke 18 cm Length 43 cm Sleeve length 25 cm from underarm to wrist; Sleeve length 41 cm from neck to wrist

Note:

tton Camilla by Madame Tricote Paris could also be used ... it has the san bright colors and is a very similar yarn.

Other materials:

Four buttons about 1/2 inch (1.5cm) in diameter; 3/4 inch (2cm) maximum (I used Dress it up buttons) some beads.

As the title says, this is a revised version of my original pattern. I am really sorry if I confused you last time.. I spent many time again to write this new version, so I hope, that this time, it will be all clear now. If you find something confusing, please write me on this e-mail: vendula.maderska@seznam.cz Dear girls, I am very happy you like my design, but please notice, this pattern is not to teach you how to crochet a pattern, you should know the basic crochet skills. This cardigan is not difficult to make. The hardest part is probably the yoke ... you need to keep counting the stitches on every round to be sure the increases line up properly. Working from the neck edge down, the chart below gives instructions for the yoke. After Round 24, separate the yoke into two fronts, the back, and two sleeves

to avoid having to reworK.

Note 1

I have made this cardigan in various color combinations; I decided to leave only two, the cardigan from first page.

Note 2

The yoke is worked in a 2-round pattern ... 1 round of DC followed by 1 round of SC. Count the number of stitches while working every round to avoid having to rework rounds.

Note 3 - very important.

Begin every round of DC with 3 CH, then make a HDC in the very first stitch. This beginning 3 CH, 1HDC group counts as the 1st DC (see picture below) Begin every round of SC with 1 CH, then make the first SC in the first stitch. This beginning 1 CH, 1 SC group counts as the 1st SC

At the end of every round turn your work and start the next round as given in Note 3 Working round ends this way gives nice straight edges!

Instruction SIZE 5 years old child

Starting at the neckline, CH 108 Round 1: DC into the 4th CH from the hook (the first 3 CH count as the 1st DC here and throughout), then DC into every stitch across; 106 DC; turn work

For the following rounds, work from the chart below: Round 2: 1 CH, SC into each DC across; 106 SC

There are now 258 stitches

The finished yoke should look like the yoke shown below.

Round 25: divide the yoke into Fronts, Back and Sleeves

Work Shell pattern; make 6 Shells (for one front; 36 stitches). Mark the 37th stitch, then skip the next 55 stitches for the sleeve. To make the DC for the beginning of the next Shell, insert the hook into both the 37th and the 93rd stitches (see picture bellow please), and finish working the DC as usual. Continue working the Shell pattern across the back (12 Shells; 72 stitches). Mark the 165th stitch, skip 55 stitches for the second sleeve, then make 1 DC for the beginning of the next Shell by inserting the hook into the marked 165th and the 221th stitches together and finish working the DC. Continue working Shells across the front yoke stitches - make 6 shells.

Continue working Shell pattern (see diagram below) Work across the right front, skip the stitches for the right sleeve, work across the back, skip the left sleeve stitches, then work across the left front.

There are now 24 shells; 6 Shells on right front, 12 on back, 6 on left froni

The Shell pattern in detail

Now make thesleeves Left sleeve - size 5 years old child; Work in Rounds with light pink color in DC only. Round 1: 3 CH (as 1st DC), DC in next 54 sts; join with a St St in 1st DC; 55 DC total Rounds 2-14: work around in DC as for the 1st Round, AT THE SAME TIME shaping the sleeve by decreasing 1 stitch in round 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14. At the end of round 14, there'll be50 DC Rounds 15-19: begin increases; add 1 DC every round; at the end of round 19 there'll be55DC Round 20-27: 3 CH (as 1st DC), DC in next 54 sts; join with a St St in 1st DC; 55 DC total Round 28: one round of SC Round 29: make a Scallop edging: \*1 SC, skip 2 stitches, work 5 DC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, work 1 SC in next stitch\*; repeat from \* to end of round; join to 1st SC with a St St and finish off.

Right sleeve - 5 years old

Work in rounds, shaping as for left sleeve and working throughout in one round of DC followed by one round of holes. Starting at the neckline, CH 100 Round 1: DC into the 4th CH from the hook (the first 3 CH count as the 1st DC here and throughout), then DC into every stitch across; 98 DC; turn work Round 2: 1 CH, SC into each DC across; 98 SC For the following rounds, work from the chart below:

There are now 250 stitches

Round 25: divide the yoke into Fronts, Back and Sleeves

Work Shell pattern; make 6 Shells (for one front; 36 stitches). Mark the 37th stitch, then skip the next 55 stitches for the sleeve. Rounds 1-19: work same way as size 5 years old, Round 2o: change to edging color and work one round of SC Round 21: make a Scallop edging: \*1 SC, skip 2 stitches, work 5 DC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, work 1 SC in next stitch\*; repeat from \* to end of round; join to 1st SC with a St St and finish off.

Right sleeve size 3 year old child

Finishing (both sizes)

Work one round SC around the front and neckline edges, skipping every 5th stitch along the neck edge (size 5 years old; for size 3 years old skip every 6 stitch) - to give the neckline a better look and fit. Work a second round to Scallop the edges as given for sleeves: \*1 SC, skip 2 stitches, work 5 DC in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, 1 SC, repeat from \* around; join with a Sl St in 1st SC and finish off.

Neaten all loose ends. Sew buttons evenly spaced down the yoke, placing them opposite a gap in the Scallop edge. Detail of finished neckline. Note that buttonholes are just gaps in the Scallop edging

Flower motif

Petal Begin with 8 CH and work in rounds, don't turn your work Round 1: 7 SC Round 2: 1 CH, (3 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 5 DC) in last stitch, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 3 SC Round 3: 1 CH, 6 SC, (2 SC in next stitch) 5 times, 6 SC, finish off

The flower center

Round 1: 5 CH, join with a St St to form a ring Round 2: 3 CH, 9 DC into the ring; join with a St St in 1st DC Round 3: 3 CH, 1 DC, (2 DC in next stitch) 9 times; join with a St St in 1st DC, finish off Neaten loose ends and sew petals and flower center together.
