Insert left needle from left to right into the front of both slipped stitches. Knit the 2 stitches together. P2tog: purl two stitches together through the front of both loops SSP: (slip, slip, purl) Slip the next 2 sts knitwise, one at a time, to right needle. Slip them back to left needle. Then purl them together through back loops. M1: (make one) Insert left needle from front to back under the horizontal strand between the stitch on the left needle and the stitch on the right needle. This forms a loop on the left needle. Knit (or purl) the loop through the back. Double Chain Stitch: begin with 2 sts on crochet hook. \*Yarn over the hook and draw it through both loops. There is now only 1 loop (the new one) on the hook. Insert the hook in the left loop of the row below. Yarn over the hook and pull through. Instructions:
In MC, cast on 4 sts and join in the round. (The first two rounds can be worked I-cord style.) Round 1: K R2: $^{\star}\mathsf{K}\tau$ , $\mathsf{M}\,^{\star}\,\mathsf{4}$ times Divide sts onto double pointed needles: 4 sts on $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ needle, 2 sts on $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle, and 2 sts on $3^{\mathsf{r d}}$ needle.
R3: K
R4: 1st needle: K1, M1, K until 1 st remains on needle, M1, K1; $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle: K1, M1, K to end of needle; $3^{\mathsf{r d}}$ needle: K until 1 st remains on needle, M1, K1 Repeat Rounds 3 & 4 until 40 sts total. R19: (in CC) K R20: (in MC) K Repeat Rounds 19 & 20 twice more. R25: (in MC) K Break yarns. Slip first 10 sts onto holder. Slip last 10 sts of round onto another holder. There are now 20 sts on needles. Directions for top “bump" of heart: Using MC, work back and forth in rows. Start at the first of the 20 sts and attach MC. Row 1: SSK, K16, K2tog R2: P7, SSP, P2tog, P7 R3: SSK, K12, K2tog R4: P5, SSP, P2tog, P5 R5: SSK, K8, K2tog R6: \*P2tog, P1, SSP\* twice Break yarn leaving a tail. Use a tapestry needle pull tail through remaining 6 sts. Slip all sts from holders onto needles. Repeat directions for top "bump" of heart for these 20 sts. Weave in all loose ends. For a button close on the bag, attach button about 6 rows down from center between "bumps". On other side of bag at center between "bumps" start a crochet chain using MC. Make chain long enough to loop around button and back to starting point. Break yarn leaving a tail. Use the tail and a tapestry needle to sew this end of chain to bag next to start of chain. Weave in loose ends. For a crochet handle on the bag, pick up 2 sts from the top of one “bump" using CC. Double Chain Stitch until desired handle length. Break yarn leaving a tail. Use the tail and a tapestry needle to sew end of chain to top of other "bump". Weave in loose ends.
