Repeat six times or until desired length of leg. HEEL: Merry Monday offers a classic flap & gusset heel, using linen stitch for the heel flap. Of course you can exchange it for another heel of your choice that is suitable for cuff down socks. For the heel flap just use the stitches of needle 1 and needle 4 (17 stitches each). Knit the flap back and forth for 36 rows in linen stitch, starting at needle 1. Linen stitch: Row 1: \*K1, slip 1 with yarn in front\* Row 2: \*P1, slip 1 with yarn in back\* Repeat these two rows. Slip stitches are slipped as if to purl.
Flap & Gusset Heel with short rows
ing the heel flap (ending with a wrong side row) divide stitches in half and put a marke This heel combines the usual heel flap with short rows. To make those short rows you need to make wrapped stitches. Wrap stich: slip next stitch purlwise to right needle. Bring yarn to front . Slip same stitch back to lef needle. Turn work and bring yarn in position for next stitch, wrapping the stitch as you do so. 1. Knit until 4 stitches after the marker, wrap stitch, turn work. 2. Purl until 4 stitches after the marker, wrap stitch, turn work. 3. Knit to the wrapped stitch, knit the wrapped stitch together with its wrap and wrap the next stitch. Continue that way until 8 stitches at each side are still unworked. 4.Knit to last wrapped (worked) stitch and knit it together with the first unworked stitch. Turn. 5. Purl to last wrapped (worked) stitch and purl it together with the first unworked stitch. Turn. Continue 4. and 5. until all stitches have been worked. Last row should be a purl row. Divide the heel stitches on two needles and knit across. At the edge of the heel flap start picking up stitches along the heel flap. Pick up 1 stitch for two rows of knitting and one or two stitches for the corners - to avoid holes. Knit the stitches of needle 2 and 3 in pattern and pick up stitches along the other side of the heel. Now you have to decrease the stitches you picked up. You are working in the round again. Decreases are worked every other row. Needle 1: Knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: Knit in cross braid & curl pattern. Needle 3: Knit in cross braid & curl pattern. Needle 4: kl, sll, kl, psso. Knit across. You need to continue decreases until you have the same number of stitches you had before you started knitting the heel. FOOT: Continue working cross braids and curl pattern on the upper part of the foot, knit stockinette stitch On the sole. Work foot until sole measures 19 cm or 7,5 inch, then start toe. End with a round 9. TOE: Stop making curls now but continue working the four crossed braids on the instep until the end. Decrease every other row down the toe: ROUND 1: Needle 2: k1, sll, kl, psso, knit to first purl stitch, pl, k2, p2, k2, p1 Needle 3: p1, k2, p2, k2, p1, knit to last 3 sitches , k2tog, k1 Needle 4: kl, sll, kl, psso, knit to end of needle ROUND 2: Nloodlo. 1: knit to ond of Needle 2: knit to first purl stitch, pl, cb, p2, cb, p1 Needle 3: pl, cb, p2, cb, pl, knit to end of needle Needle 4: knit Repeat those two rounds until you have 16 stitches left for the sole and 16 stitches for the instep, 32 stitches altogether. The more stitches you decrease the less knit stitches you will have left. In case you want to knit a pointier toe or if you generally want to make the sock a little longer you can increase further into the cb pattern: when you have used up all the knit stitches and you need to decrease the crossed braid, just knit those cb stiches and continue until you have reached your desired number of stitches.

Close the gap with 3 needle bind off. Before you start, knit another 16 stitches (needle 1) as you need the yarn at the side of the sock to perform the 3-needle-bind-off.
3-Needle-Bind-Off:
Turn the sock to the wrong side, be careful not to drop any stitches. You can put the stitches on waste yarn for the turn, to be on the safe side. Put the remaining stitches on two needles, one needle for the stitches of the upper (patterned) part of the sock and one needle for the stitches of the sole. Now take a third needle and knit one stitch of both needles together. Knit another pair of stitches together and slip the stitches you have knit together before over them - like in a normal bind off. Continue this step with allthe remaining stitches until one stitch left, pull the yarn through that last stitch. Turn sock back to the right side. Sew in ends. Keep your feet nice & warm.
