Pattern illustration

A Simple Knits design This blanket pattern is a cross between a mitered square and a granny square. Start at one corner by making half a granny square base. Then work in L-shaped rows along two sides. It's easy to crochet blanket and great for using up scrap yarn as you change colors on every row. Materials: Worsted weight yarn scraps Crochet hook size H (5 mm) Size: 64" x 64" - about 2,656 yards of ww yarn Crochet half a granny square as the base using one color. Base Row 1: Ch 3. In the chain farthest from your hook work: dc, ch2,3 dc, ch2,2 dc,turn. Base Row 2: Ch 4, in ch2 sp work [3 dc, ch2,3 dc] $\boldsymbol{\mathit{1}}^{s t}$ corner,ch1,in ch2 sp work [3 dc,ch2,3 dc] $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ corner, ch1, dc in top of ch3, turn. Base Row 3:Ch 3,dc in ch1 sp,ch1, in ch2 sp work [3 dc, ch2,3 dc], ch1,3 dc in ch1 sp, ch1, in ch2 sp work [3 dc,ch2,3 dc],ch1,dc in the next ch and in top of ch3. Cut yarn; pull thru 1oop. Do not turn. From this point on as you finish a row, cut your yarn and pull the yarn tail thru the last loop. Then go back to where you began the previous row, join a new color, and start the next row. Stitches are worked in the chain spaces of the previous row unless indicated. (Color notes refer to the row color used in the photo, not what color you need to use.) Row 4: Ch4, 3 dc, ch1,[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc], ch1,3 dc, ch1,3 dc,ch1, 2 dc.(dark green) Row 5: Ch3, dc in sp next to ch3, ch1,3 dc, ch1,[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc],[ch1,3 dc][3x], ch1, dc intop of last dc.(white) Row 6: Ch4, 3 dc, ch1,3 dc, ch1,[3 dc, ch2,3 dc], [ch1, 3dc][3x], ch1, dc in sp and in last dc.(blue) Row 7: Ch3, dc in sp next to ch3, [ch1, 3dc][2x], ch1,[3 dc,ch2,3 dc],[ch1,3 dc][4x],ch1,dc in last dc. (red) Row 8: Ch4, 3 dc,[ch1, 3 dc][3x], ch1,[3 dc,ch2,3 dc],[ch1,3dc][4x],ch1,dc in sp and in last dc. (gray) Repeat Rows 7 & 8 adding an extra [ch1, 3 dc] on each side of the "L" as the blanket grows. For example, [2x] becomes [3x] on the next row. After doing a few rows, you'll see how this works. If you're confused, look at the picture. when your blanket is big enough, chose one color for the border. Work one last row, then continue around the unworked sides in dc. If you didn't tuck in your yarn tails, crochet over them as you work down these sides. Join to the beginning of the row. Cut yarn; pull thru loop. Tuck in tail. Key: x times sp space ch chain dc double crochet
