Betty's Coat scarf
With Two Options
You will need:
1 skein Red Heart worsted wt. acrylic or 1 50 g. skein worsted wt. wool 1 pair size 9 (US) (5 % mm) needles Yarn Needle Scissors
Gauge:
Approx. 4 sts. And 4 rows per inch over rolling pattern.
Pattern:
Cast on 20 sts. leaving a tail to weave in upon completion. Work one full section of the rolling pattern (below) which will create 14 alternating bands. Next: Work in K1, P1 ribbing until ribbing section measures 20 inches. Begin block pattern (right) and work until you have 9 rows of block repeats. The 9 rows of blocks will be about the same height as the unstretched rolling pattern section. Bind off by knitting the knit stitches and purling the purl stitches. Weave in the tails. Block very lightly if at all so that you do not flatten out the rolling or ribbing patterns. Rolling Pattern: Rows 1 (RS), 3, 5, 6, 8, 10: Knit. Rows 2,4,7,9: Purl Repeat this ten row repeat seven times which will create alternating bands of stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch.

Block Pattern: Row 1-5 (RS): \*K 5, P5\* across row. Row 6-10: \* p5, K5\* across row. Repeat these ten rows for a total of 45 rows, ending on a row 5. You will have 9 rows of block repeats. Option: You may want to do the same pattern on each end of the scarf. If so, follow the directions for the end you prefer at each end but maintain the ribbing section in the middle for comfort and fit. Copyright @ 2010 LucileArnusch. AUl righty reserved.
