THE PATTERN
1. With brown color, magic ring, ch 2 (always count as 1 dc), dc 7 in ring, join to top of first dc with sl st, tighten to close ring. (8 dc) 2. ch 2, bpdc in every dc of previous row, join with sl st to top of first dc (8 dc). This will turn your work in a 90° compared to previous row. 3. ch 2, dc in every sts around. (8 dc) 4. ch 2, dc 2 in every dc of previous row, join. (16 dc) Change color to Pumpkin. 5. ch 2, \*fpdc (around the post of the dc in the previous row), hdc 2 in next (worked in both loops like normal)\*\*, repeat again 7 times, join. (24 sts, 8 fpdc) 6. ch 2, \*fpdc in previous row dc to create a visible bump all the way down, dc 1 in next, dc 2 in following\*\*, repeat again 7 times, join. (32 sts) 7. ch 2, \*fpdc, dc 1, dc 1, dc 2\*\*, repeat again 7 times, join. (40 sts) 8. for 2-3 years: ch 2, \*fpdc, dc 1, dc 1, dc 1, dc 2\*\*, repeat again 7 times, join. [(48 sts) for 18 months: ch 2, \*fpdc, dc 1 in next 4 dc, fpdc, dc 1 in next 3 dc, dc 2\*\*, repeat again 3 times, join. (44 sts) There's not much of a difference between the two stitch counts because of the thickness of the yarn used. 9. ch 2, \*fpdc, dc 1 in next 4 or 5 sts (depending on previous row)\*\*, repeat again 7 times, join. (44 or 48 sts). Repeat this row until reach of desired length; I did 6 extra rows for size 18 months and 7 for size 2-3 years. . 10. ch 1, sc in every dc from previous row and fpsc in every fpdc, join. (44 or 48 Sts) 11. ch 1, sl st in every sts around, cut yarn and fasten off. (44 or 48 sts) The "knitted v's" look of the sl sts will appear to be "on top" of the previous row and that is what gives our hat a more finished look. 1.ch 23. 2. dc 2 in 3rd chain, dc 2 in every ch. (40 dc) 3. Cut yarn leaving a long tail, use it to attach it between rows #3 and 4.
