
A warm, fitted hat. Stranded knitting results in a double layer fabric, perfect for cold, windy winter days.
You will need:
@ 110 yds Cascade 220 Heathers, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 220 yds/100 gms (color 2431) or other DK/light worsted weight yarn Most of ONE ball of \*Rhythm", by Jojoland, 100% Wool, 110 yds/ 50 gms (color # M09) or other DK/light worsted weight yarn 16" circ needle and set of 5 dbl pts, size US 5 (3.75 mm) (or size to meet gauge) Stitch marker to mark start of row
GAUGE
5 sts per 1 inch (2.54 cm) Row gauge is not critical for this pattern
BOTTOM EDGING
With color A (using circular needle), cast on 90 sts. Knit one row in 1x1 rib (k1, P1). Join, making sure not to twist. Work 3 rounds(rd) in 1x1 rib. Increase rd: (k8, k front and back of next st). (100 sts)
BODY
Work Chart A (blank squares in all charts are color A) Knit 2 rds with color A Work Chart B Knit 2 rds with color A ·Work Chart C Knit 2 rds with color A Work Chart D Knit 2 rds with color A Work Chart E Knit 2 rds with color A Work Chart F ·Knit 4 rds with color A Knit 1 rd with color B Knit 3 rds with color A
CROWN SHAPING
Continuing with color A, work rds as follows: (k1, k2tog), end k1 (67 sts) K one rd (k1, k2tog), end k1 (45 sts) K one rd (k2tog), end k1 (23 sts) K one rd Pull yarn through remaining sts. Do not weave in sts until after pompom is attached.
FINISHING
Make large pompom with color B. Attach at crown, pull crown tightly closed, and weave in ends. Use cast on end to close tiny gap where rows meet on cast on edge.
