PETERS HAT
Cn original bat pattern created for a student e shared withMadison Knitter's Guild Community Knitting.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS & NOTES: This is a basic cabled hat with bulky yarn & large needles. Mix and match your leftover yarn to create something whimsical, bright, and cheerful for the gloomy winter months!
NEEDLES & YARN:
US 10.5 circular needles (16") Heavy worsted or bulky yarn, 150-200 yards 4 stitch markers are helpful Gauge is about 4 stitches/inch
STITCHES USED:
k (knit) p (purl) k2tog (knit two together) C3R (cable three right; worked over 6 stitches-place next three stitches on a cable needle and hold to the back of the work, knit three stitches from the left needle, place held stitches on left needle, knit these three stitches)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the long tail method (or preferred cast on method), CO 88 (92, 96) stitches. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist. Mark beginning. Rounds 1-6 and 8 of the body are worked as follows: [p2, k6, p2, k12 (13, 14) slip marker] x4 Round 7 is the cable cross and is worked as follows: [p2, C3R, p2, k12 (13, 14) slip marker] x4 Work these 8 rounds for 10 (10.5, 11) inches or until desired height is achieved. Begin decreases. DECREASES: Round 1: [p2, k6, p2, (k2tog, k2)x3, k extra stitches for larger sizes] x4 Round 2: [p2, k6, p2, k9 (10, 11)] x4 Round 3: [p2, k6, p2, (k2tog, k1) x3(4)] x4 Round 4: [p2, (k2tog, k1) x3, p2, k6(7)]x4 Round 5: [p2, (k2togx2), p2, (k2rogx3), k extra stitches for larger sizes]x4 Round 6: [p2, k2, p2, k3(4)] x4 Round 7: [p2tog, k2, p2tog, k3(4)] x4 Round 8: [p1, k2tog, p1, k2tog (2x for larger sz), k1] x4 Round 9: [p1, kl, p1, k2(3)] x4 Round 10: k2tog all the way around, removing markers and knitting a single stitch at the end if needed. Break yarn leaving a long tail. Pull tail through all loops and tie off. Weave in ends. Add pom pom if desired. Peter chose to work a contrast color band at the begin ning of his version of the hat. If you'd like to do that, simply cast on the same number of stitches, work a 2x2 or 4x4 ribbing (4x4 only works for S & L) for two inches or so, switch yarns and work the pattern as written.
