Left Glove

Cast on 54 stitches using long tail cast on. Using a center pull ball, make a slip knit loop with two strands of yarn - one from the center of the ball, and the other from the outside of the ball. Leave enough yarn to weave in later (about 5 inches. Use these two yarn strands as your long tails. Cast on 54 stitches and remove the slip knot. Transfer stitches to 4 double pointed needles, taking care not to twist stitches. Do not break off either strand as you will be using both for the braid trim.

Braid trim: Knit one row. On the next two rows, you will be purling, alternating the two strands of yarn every stitch. For the LEFT LEANING BRAID ROW, hold both strands of yarn in front of work. The working yarn, the one with which you are about to make a stitch is held in FRONT of the other yarn strand. Knit one row, alternating the two strands, always holding the working strand in front. In the next row, the RIGHT LEANING BRAID ROW, the working yarn for the upcoming stitch is held BEHIND the other yarn strand. Purl one row, alternating the two yarn strands, holding the working strand behind the other. Break off one of the strands, leaving enough to weave in later. Knit 19 stitches (chevron pattern), (P2, K2) twice, P2, Knit 15, (P2, K2) twice, P2. (The first row of the chevron pattern is knit. Begin the increases and the decreases on the second row.) Continue thus, with chevron pattern, the ribbing -- knit the knits and purl the purls - and the 15 stitches of stockinet until mitt is about $2~\%$ (or desired length) long, measuring in the stockinet section, not the chevron which will be longer.

Begin thumb gusset:

Knit around the row, chevron, ribbing, 14 stitches stockinet, P2, K2, P1, place marker, YO, P1, knit to end of round as established. First increase stitch of thumb gusset made. Knit three rounds, knit to marker, YO, knit to end of row in established pattern. Continue thus, increasing one stitch after marker every fourth row until 3 stitches are increased. Knit three rows, and this time, rather than increasing at the marker, knit 3 stitches (in established ribbing) past the marker, M1P. You should now have increased 4 stitches and should be able to continue P2,K2 ribbing across increase section of thumb gusset. AT THE SAME TIME, continue K2P2 ribbing, incorporating the stitches created by theYO's into the pattern. Continue in pattern for $2~\%$ inches beyond first YO.

Thumb opening:

Knit to within 2 stitches before marker. Place 2 stitches before the marker and 8 stitches after marker onto stitch holder. Cast on 12 stitches over opening. Continue in pattern for $1\%$ inches past thumb opening.

On the next round, knit to one stitch before the first cast on stitch, and SSK, knit 5, K2tog. 21 stitches total. Continue as established until the finger is the desired length, or to the middle of the fingernail. (Knit 3, SSK) around finger until there are 8 stitches remaining. Cut yarn, leaving at least a 6 inch tail. Thread the tail through the stitches and draw tight. Thread the tail through the stitches again, and draw tight again. Thread the tail through the tip to the inside of the finger. Weave in later.
