This hat is easy to make. The entire hat is knitted flat and seamed up the back, after you are finished. It's a winter-type hat and designed to cover your ears. It's warm and comfortable to wear too. I named it “Edith" after my fabulous step-mommy of the same name. She lives in north-central USA, where the winters can be frigid. You can use any type of worsted weight yarn. It can be acrylic or wool, doesn't matter at all. ! created thishatmore for“stashbustingreasons.Ihave alot of 1 skeins of this and that, laying around. I need to use them up this year. It's one of my year long resolutions.

Materials:

US 8 straight knitting needles 1 skein of LB Wool Ease in Chocolate Brown (color A) 1 skein of Unger Peacock in color 77 AE (color B) Yarn needle to sew in the ends and for seaming.

Note:

- This hat is knitted completely flat and later seamed up the back. - When working with two colors of yarn, carry the yarn across the wrong side of piece. Bring the new color strand under the present one, for a “twist.?" This prevents holes in your work.

Directions:

Cast on 80 stitches with color A. Knit $2\textbf{x}2$ ribbing for 10 rows. (K2, P2 across all rows) Increase row $^{*}\mathrm{K}7$ , Kf&b; repeat from \* across, last stitch is Kf&b. (90sts) Purl 1 row Knit 1 row Begin Color Work: 1. (WS) With color B, knit across 2. K2 with color B; (K2 with A, K2 with B) repeat between parenthesis across. 3. Keeping with color A and a knit row, knit in stockinette stitch for $6.5.7^{\prime\prime}$ (20 rows in stockinette, for me, was $7^{\prime\prime}$ from cast on edge)

Crown & Decreases:

$\ast\mathrm{K}7$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across Purl row $\mathrm{}^{\ast}\mathrm{K}6$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across Purl row $^{*}\mathrm{K}5$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across Purl row $\mathrm{}^{\ast}\mathrm{K}4$ K2tog; repeat from \* across Purl row $^{*}\mathrm{K}3$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across Purl row $\ast\mathrm{K}2$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across $^{*}\mathrm{K}1$ , K2tog; repeat from \* across \*K2tog; repeat from \* across (10 sts) I left the 10sts on my knitting needle while I sewed in all of the yarn tails from the color work. Cut yarn still attached to skein, leaving a considerable length of yarn. Thread your yarn needle and loop remaining 10 sts onto thread. Pull closed. Turn hat inside out and begin seaming up the back of the hat. Flip the hat back to the right side out and you are done. It's ready to wear...ENJOY!
