Frangiflulli by edith filzhof design

Frangiflutti (italian for "breakwater") .."a bit lengthways, a bit transverse, a bit circular, a bit angular shaped" The first part is knitted like the "wavy baktus", in part two there are more decreases, which intensifies the curvature and has to be compensated by decreases at the opposite side of the shawl, in part three there are more decreases on the right side which creates different tips, one lenghthways and one in transverse style. (see schema!) The gauge is not essential, though it will affect the size and yarn requirment, but knit not too loosely to keep the shpae of the ribs Material: ca. 100g fingering or light fingering yarn, Needles ca. 3- 3,5 mm Abbreviations: kfb: knit into front and back of same stitch (one increase) RS: right side, WS: wrong side Basic pattern: 6 rows of stockinette stitch, alternating with 6 rows of reverse stitch Part 1: Cast on 3 stitches, start with 6 rows of stockinette stitch, in every 6th RS-row increase one stitch at the end of the row with kfb, which makes the left side wider while the right side remains straight. (first increase in row 5!!!) repeat until a length approx. 40cm (ca.37 ribs) Part 2: Bind off one stitch at the beginning of each 6th RS-row while in every even RSrow kfb the last stitch of the rows. This makes the shawl grow wider to the left side, and on the right side it starts bending lightly to the left. Part 3: After approx. 70cm (ca.58 ribs) bind off 4 stitches at the beginning of each 6th row (RS) (which causes the stairs) simultanously kfb the last stitch of every RS-row and kfb the first stitch of every WS-row. Repeat until you have ca. 72 ribs or till you ran out of yarn. Bind off loosly, soak in water and push the waves lightly together while drying Schema:
