Materials:

Ribbon-style yarn (sample shown in Interlacements 'Utah' (68% rayon, 32% cotton) in color Red Wheel Rainbow (RWR) hand-dyed by Judy Ditmer, or ribbon-style yarn of your choice)(main color (MC)): 450 yds Sport weight yarn (sample shown in Brown Sheep 'Top of the Lamb' sport weight, 100% wool, 1 ball each Russet, Mallard, Emperors Purple, or sport wt. colors of your choice): 450 yds. total -- three 150-yd. balls in three different colors (Color A, Color B, Color C) of size US 11 (8 mm) knitting needles, or size needed to achieve gauc Tapestry needle for weaving in ends Materials:

Stitch Patterns:

Seed stitch pattern: Row 1: \*K1, P1, rep from \* across. Row 2: \*P1, K1, rep from \* across. Rep Rows 1 & 2, knitting the purls and purling the knits. Windows pattern: Row 1: K1, (yo, slip 1, K1, psso) 3x, K5. Row 2 and all even rows: Purl. Rows 3 and 5: Same as Row 1. Row 7: K5, (yo, slip 1, K1, psso) 3x, K1. Rows 9 and 11: Same as Row 7. Row 12: Purl. Rep these 12 rows for Windows pattern.

Pattern notes:

Scarf is worked holding one strand of ribbon yarn (MC) with one strand of sport weight yarn (Color A, B or C) When told to slip stitches, slip them purlwise.

Color sequence:

First 12 rows: 1 strand MC ribbon held together with 1 strand Color A sport wt. \*Next 12 rows: 1 strand MC ribbon held together with 1 strand Color B sport wt. Next 12 rows: 1 strand MC ribbon held together with 1 strand Color C sport wt. Next 12 rows: 1 strand MC ribbon held together with 1 strand Color A sport wt. Rep from \* throughout scarf. NOTE: When changing sport wt. colors A, B or C, join, cut and rejoin as necessary. DO NOT CUT MC ribbon until scarf is completed.

Scarf

Holding one strand MC ribbon together with one strand Color A sport wt., cast on 18 stitches loosely. Work seed stitch border: Row 1: \*K1, p1, rep from \* across. Row 2: \*P1, k1, rep from \* across. Rep Rows 1 and 2 twice more (total 6 rows). Begin Windows pattern: (NOTE: Keep 3 stitches at beginning and end of each row in seed stitch for border.) Row 1 (RS): Work first 3 stitches in seed stitch as established, place marker, K1, (yo, slip 1, knit 1, psso) 3x, K5, place marker, work last 3 stitches in seed stitch as established. Row 2 and all even rows: Seed stitch across 3 sts, purl across 12 sts between markers, seed stitch 3 sts. Rows 3 and 5: Rep Row 1 of Windows pattern. NOTE: Change colors on next row, then follow color sequence changing colors every 12 rows as noted above. Row 7: Seed stitch across first 3 sts, K5, (yo, slip 1, K1, pss0) 3x, K1, seed stitch across last 3 sts. Rows 9 and 11: Rep Row 7. Row 12: Seed stitch across 3 sts, purl across 12 sts between markers, seed stitch across last 3 sts. Rep Rows 1-12 for pattern until scarf is approx. 40" long. Final rows: Work 6 rows Windows pattern with MC ribbon/Color A sport wt. combination, then continue with 6 rows seed stitch border to match beginning of scarf. Bind off stitches loosely.
