The Diamond-Framed Daisy Scarf combines a variety of stitch patterns and textures, making it interesting to both knit and wear. An edging is mirrored at the beginning and end of the scarf, allowing the scarf to be worked continuously in one piece without grafting. A central pattern of twist stitches (1x1 cables) is worked without using a cable needle, and encloses eyelet daisies worked on a background of stockinette stitch. Despite the long repeat length, the pattern is easy to memorize, and just a few repeats will make a full-length scarf.
Materials:
Yarn: DK weight yarn, approximately 220 yards/ 200 m. High wool content is recommended for successful blocking. Scarf is shown in Drops Karisma Superwash. Needles: US #7/ 4.5mm, or 1-2 sizes larger than needed to achieve gauge recommended by manufacturer. Needles may be any style suitable for working flat.
Gauge:
18 sts. x 24 rows = 4 x 4"/ 10.2 x 10.2 cm. in stockinette stitch. One Diamond-Framed Daisy pattern repeat measures approximately 2.5 x 3.75"/ 6.35 x 9.5 cm. While gauge is not critical for this project, it will affect final width of scarf. Scarf width approximately equals two Diamond-Framed Daisy patterns. Note that stitch counts cannot be easily modified.
Finished Dimensions:
5.25" x 50"/ 13.3 x 127 cm.
