NOTES:
1. These socks are worked toe-up on DPNs. Feel free to knit a different method if youwish. 2. Lace Chart 2 has patterning on every round. 3. This pattern assumes you have a basic knowledge of sock construction and methods.
TOE:
Using Judy's Magic Cast on (or other preferred method), cast on 20 sts, 10 on each of two needles. Rnd 1: Knit, dividing stitches evenly over 3 needles. (10 sts on needle 1 for instep, sts each on needles 2 and 3 for bottom of foot OR 10 on each needle for circular methods) needle. Needle 3: K to last st, M1, K1. Repeat these two rounds until there are 64 sts. Next round: Inc 1 st on instep, K bottom of foot sts.
FOOT:
Rnd 1: K5, knit 7 sts of chart A, 9 sts of chart B, 7 sts of chart A, k5. Knit bottom of foot in st st. Knit in pattern as set until approximately 3" short of desired foot length.
GUSSET:
Continue in pattern on instep. For heel sts: First rnd: K1, M1, knit to last heel st, M1, K1. Next rnd: Knit across heel sts. Repeat these two rounds on heel sts, while still working pattern on instep until there are 58 heel sts. Knit across instep. Mark this pattern row as last round worked.
HEEL:
Heel sts are divided thus: 13 sts, 32 heel sts, 13 sts. PM on either side of the 32 heel Sts. Knit across 13 sts. Row 1: Knit 31 sts. Bring yarn to front as if to purl, slip next st from left to right needle. Turn work. Copyright 2011, Becky Greene Row 2: Move yarn to front again, slip first stitch from left to right needle (this is the first wrapped stitch). Purl across until 1 st remains before marker. Bring yarn to back of work and slip last stitch. Turn work. Row 3: Bring yarn to back, slip first stitch (this completes wrapping the stitch). Knit across to the last stitch before the unworked stitch. Wrap and turn. Row 4: Slip first stitch, purl across to last unworked stitch, wrap and turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 6 wrapped stitches on each side of the heel.
Finish Heel Turn:
Row 1: Knit across to the first wrapped stitch. Pick up the wrap and the stitch and knit them together. Continue to pick up wrapped stitches and wraps and knit together until you reach the first marker. Turn work. Row 2: Slip the first stitch. Purl across to the first wrapped stitch. Purl the wrap and the stitch together. Continue to purl wraps and wrapped stitches together until you reach the marker. Turn work.
Heel Flap:
Row 1: Slip first st, \*K1, sl1\* across heel sts until the last heel st. Knit last heel st together with first st after marker (you will need to move the marker so it doesn't get trapped). Turn. Row 2: Slip first st, purl across to last st before marker, purl last st of heel with first st after marker. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until all of the side sts have been picked up. You should now have 33 instep sts and 32 back of leg/heel sts. Next round: Continue across the instep sts as established (K5, 23 sts according to charts, K5). Knit across back of leg sts, and decrease 1 st. (64 sts total). Continue as established until the instep pattern ends at row 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, or 24. (This should be at most 4 rounds). Knit across 27 back of leg sts. This is the new beginning of the round. Readjust your sts so the first 32 are on one needle, the next 16 are on needle 2, and the last 16 are on needle 3. You should now have 9 knit sts before the first set of Chart B sts.
Leg:
Continuing in pattern from where you left off, \*knit 9 sts of chart B, 7 sts of Chart A\* 4 times around sock. Knit in pattern until you have 5 complete repeats of Chart B (from toe to cuff), or to desired length.
Cuff:
Rnd 1-12: \*K3, P3, K3, continue chart A pattern\*, repeat around. Finish with a sewn bind-off.
