Size: newborn (0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years) Materials Needed: -Worsted weight Yarn (Il used Caron Simply Sof for the hat itself) -one skein of light blue -small amounts of medium blue, red, white, black, light green, and brown yarn -16-inch circular needle, U.S. size 7 (or size needed for gauge) -Set of 4 U.S. size 7 double pointed needles -Crochet Hook (approx. size f or G) -Yarn needle -Stitch marker Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch
With circular needles using medium blue, use the long tail method to cast on 56 (64, 72, 80) stitches, then place stitch marker on right hand needle to mark the beginning of the round and join to make a circle. Work 4 rounds of seed stitch in medium blue. Switch to light blue and knit all rounds until hat measures 5 (5 $^{1}\!/\!_{2},\,6,\,6\,\,^{1}\!/\!_{2}\!)$ inches from thecast-on edge. To decrease: Round 1: \*Knit 6 stitches, k2TOG, repeat from \* to end. Round 2: \*Knit 5 stitches, K2TOG, repeat from \* to end. Round 3: Knit all stitches. Round 4: Knitting directly onto 3 of the DPNS: $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ needle: \*Knit 4 stitches, K2TOG, repeat from \* 2 (3,3,3) times. 10 (15,15,15) stitches on 1st needle $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle: \*Knit 4 stitches, K2TOG, repeat from \* 2 (3,33) times. 10 (15,15,15) stitches on 2nd needle $3^{\mathsf{r d}}$ needle: \*Knit 4 stitches, K2TOG, repeat from \* 3 (2,3,4) times. 15 (10,15,20) stitches on 3rd needle Using the $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ needle knit stitches in the round. For the lighthouses: Cape Hatteras (NC) With light brown cast on 8 stitches, knit allstitches for 2 rows. Row 3: Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Row 4: Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Change to white yarn. Knitting all stitches, knit 18 rows using white. Change to black yarn. Knit 2 rows. Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Next row, bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Knitting all stitches, knit 2 more rows. Bind off. For the diagonal stripe, chain stitch 25 stitches. Wrap stitch around the white portion of the lighthouse until the stripe's diagonal is even, stitch in place with tail of stripe. Iybee Island (GA) With light green cast on 10 stitches, then knit all stitches for 3 rows. Bind off 3 stitches, knit to end. Next row, bind off 3 stitches, knit to end. Change to black Knit all stitches for the next 8 rows. Change to white Knit all stitches for the next 8 rows. Change to Black Knit all stitches for the next 8 rows. Next row, bind off 1 stitch, knit to end. Next row, bind off 1 stitch, knit to end. Next 2 rows, knit all stitches. Bind off. Cape May Point Lighthouse (NJ) With light green cast on 8 stitches, knit all stitches for 2 rows. Row 3: Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Row 4: Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Change to white yarn. Knitting all stitches, knit 18 rows using white. Change to red yarn. Knit 2 rows. Bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Next row, bind off 2 stitches, knit to end. Knitting all stitches, knit 2 more rows. Bind off.
