Kidney Pie Cap
by Joan Forgione My grandpa had a great sense of humor and enjoyed vaudeville comedians. J'm not sure whether it was "Abbott and Costello" or "Laurel and Hardy," but there was an act in which they were discussing intellect. One of the comedians said to the other something along the lines of. "You need to remember to use your kidneys."Grandpa used it all the time to tell us to "be smart." Jt became an inside family joke to say "use your kidneys' if we wanted to let someone know they needed to stay sharp. So here's something to keep your "kidneys" toasty warm. Kidney Pie is a close-fitting lace and cable cap. Stretchy ribbing branches off into a simple cable and lace motif. The cap has been designed to continue the flow of lace and cables to its top. Suitable for Intermediate knitter SKILLSUSED knitting in the round, cabling, increasing, decreasing

Note: Since the cap has been designed to continue the flow of lace and cables to the top, if you wish to make Kidney Pie longer, adjust what round you begin the scribble lace pattern so that the Top of cap shaping begins on Round 3. With smaller needles, cast on 80 sts. Join to work in round. Place marker for beg of round. Work Ribbing (Chart A) for 2". Then change to larger needles and work Scribble Lace (Chart B) twice. Then work rows 1 and 2 of Scribble Lace (Chart B).
