Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world. It can grow up to 20 meters in length and weigh as much as 34 tons! It's easily recognizable because of the distinctive spots and stripes along its back, not to mention having a huge mouth that can be up to a meter wide.

On starting, stitches are made in a round spiral, as in typical amigurumi, changing yarn color on each side of the whale shark pattern. The pattern starts from the mouth of the whale shark and ends on the caudal (tail) fin. Since the pattern is in a spiral, expect a little twisting of the finished shark. It adds to the charm, really. (I'm totally serious.) All stitches are in American English crochet. Numbers in parentheses are total number stitches done for the particular pattern phrase. Numbers before a stitch means an increase, e.g. 2 sc blue means do 2 single crochet on the next stitch using blue yarn.
