Sassenach-An Outlander Cowl

Sassenach, inspired by the Outlander series, is a garter stitch cowl knit with super bulky yarn and big needles. It's shown folded in half so when it drapes you get the beauty of the pattern showing since garter stitch is reversible. Sassenach is a fun to knit cowl quick to knit suitable for beginners. In just a few hours you'll have a beauty to wear! It's so pretty you'll knit several!
GAUGE:
6.5 sts. /4" in garter st. Gauge is not critical for this design. Approximately 32" by 12" after I wore it around for a bit! You'll want to open up the garter ridges as you knit to show off the gorgeous yarn!
MATERIALS
Approximately 110 yds of a super bulky yarn such as Magnum (sample shown is handspun yarn from Cape House Farms) Don't have quite enough yarn? Cast on fewer stitches. Want to knit it wider? Cast on a few more stitches (you will need moreyarn) US #19 (15 mm.) straight or24 inch circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge ·Asmile K
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COWL
With US #19 (16 mm) needles cast on 20 stitches loosely using the long tail cast on. Knit in garter stitch (knit every row) until desired length (mine was about 32 "and I stretched it as I knit) and you have approximately 5 yds. left (enough to bind off and seam together). It's going to "grow" anyway so this way you'll have an idea of the finished size. knitwise loosely. Fold ends together and seam. Weave in ends. Block if desired. Fold in half and slip it over your head. Now go explore the Scottish Highlands, Sassenach.
