Orenburg Lace Baby Sweater
by Beth A Ferwerda

Orenburg lace is a Russian tradition. The patterns were handed down through generations. Each pattern has a name that describes the basic shape the eyelets form. The pattern used in this baby sweater is known as the gluhkotinka or strawberry. (See detail of lace pattern on next page.)

PATTERN NOTES
The knit stitch is formed using the e-wrap method on the knitting loom. This creates a twisted stitch which can be duplicated by knitting into the back loops when using knitting needles. (This is not necessary, however.) The sweater is worked from the back up and then down the front sections. The sleeves are worked from the shoulder down, leaving only the under sleeve and side seams to be sewn when finished.
