materials 50g ball of 8ply (DK) - you will use around half 4mm needles (US 6) - plain or double-pointed stitch holder or scrap yarn in contrasting colour yarn needle to weave in ends

1st tail
Cast 22 stitches on using the long tail method. Knit 30 rows in garter st, remembering to slip the first stitch of every row. Remove every 2nd stitch to the back onto a stitch holder or scrap yarn. You now have 11 active stitches and 11 stored stitches. Do make sure that you will commence ribbing from the right side (or the outside of what will become the loop). [K1, P1] five times, K1 [P1, K1] five times, P1 I this way for 13 rows in total. Break off a generous tail, and move these stitches to a stitch holder or scre Pick up previously stored stitches so that your first ribbed row will be worked from the wrong side (or the inside of what will become the loop). With a new yarn\*, repeat the 13 rows of ribbing but commence with the P1, K1 row. Your tails should both fall on the same side of your work. Before closing this loop, you may wish to weave in the tail from your new yarn\*. Knit all 22 stitches back onto one needle, alternating as you go.
