Yarn
6 (8) skeins Tilli Tomas Pure and Simple (100% silk; 260 yds./100 g); shown in Black. This pattern is specifically created to work in conjunction with the qualities of the recommended yarn; substitutions and gauge adjustments are not advised.
Needles
US9(5.5mm) 24" or 32" circular US9 (5.5mm) 16" circular US9 (5.5mm) 12" circular or DPNs Notions Stitch markers Tapestry needle 4 stitch holders WorkingGauge 20 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) over St st on US9 needles. Keep in mind that silk fiber has no stretch, but the resulting knitted fabric has a great deal of drape and body with high stitch definition. This garment will 'grow" and develop its own character with wearing. Take care not to pull or overhandle each finished piece before sewing up the garment, as pieces will become misshapen with excess handling. Gauge of finished garment will be larger than the working gauge.
Note
For all increases throughout pattern, use raised increase method. For leftslanting increase, lift strand between needles with left needle tip from front to back. Knit the lifted loop through the back to twist the stitch to the left. For a right-slanting increase, lift strand between needles with left needle tip from back to front. Knit the lifted loop through the front to twist the stitch to theright. Body
Using 24 or 32" US9 needle, CO 16o (18o) sts using long-tail method. Place marker at beginning of round and at 8o (9o) sts. Work in St st for 18 (20) inches, ending 3 Sts before marker at beginning ofthe next round. To divide front and back, BO 6 (6) sts. Knit to 3 sts before marker at opposite side, BO 6 sts. Knit remaining sts. At this time, there should be 74 (84) live sts from each side ofthe sweater on the needle. Leave all work on needle, or slip 74 (84) sts off on to large holder to work later.
Front Raglan Shaping For S/M
Working from side to side, turn work and purl the next row. On next right side row, begin shaping: k3, skp, kto last 5 sts, k2tog, k3. Work 3 rows plain. Repeat until 66 sts remain on needle. Continue working decreases on every right side row until 36 sts remain on needle. Break yarn and slip sts onto holder.
For M/L
Working from side to side, turn work and purl the next row. On next right side row, begin shaping: k3, skp, kto last 5 sts, k2 tog, k3. Knit one row plain. Cont working decreases on every right side row until 42 sts remain on needle. Break yarn and slip sts onto holder.
Back Raglan Shaping
Join new yarn and work back raglan same as front.
Sleeves
With 12" US9 circular needle or US9 DPNs, CO 36 (40) sts using long-tail method. Work 4 inches in Ix1 (k1, p1) rib in the round, placing marker at beginning of round.
For S/M
Increase 2 sts from each side of marker on every 6'h row until there are 42 sts on needle. Continuing in St st, inc I st 2 sts from each side of marker on every 8th row until there are 6o sts on the needle. Knit next row until 3 sts before marker. BO 6 sts.
For M/L
Increase I St 2 Sts from each side of marker on every 5h row until there are 58 sts on needle. Continuing in St St, inc I St 2 Sts from each side of marker on every 7 row until there are 68 sts on the needle. Knit next row until 3 Sts before marker. BO 6 sts.
Sleeve Raglan Shaping For S/M
Working from side to side, turn work and purl the next row. On next right side row, begin shaping: k3, skp, kto last 5 sts, k2tog, k3. Work 3 rows plain. Repeat until 48 sts remain on needle. Cont working decreases on every right side row until 16 sts remain on needle. Break yarn and slip sts onto holder.
For M/L
Working from side to side, turn work and purl the next row. On next right side row, begin shaping: k3, skp, kto last 5 sts, k2tog, k3. Knit one row plain. Cont working decreases on every right side row until 20 sts remain on needle. Break yarn and slip sts onto holder.

Raglan Seams
Match the body pieces to sleeves. Secure raglan edges with safety pins. Beginning with the bound off armscye sts and working toward neck edges, complete seams using mattress stitch method, inserting tapestry needle under the corresponding horizontal bars between sts, alternating from side to side and pulling yarn tight enough to hide edges.
Neck
Working counterclockwise around the neck, beginning at raglan seam on right back, slip the back 36 (42) sts from holder onto 16" US9 circular needle. Place marker. Slip the 16 (20) stitches from holder for left sleeve onto the circular needle. Place marker. Slip the front 36 (42) sts from holder onto the circular needle. Place marker. Slip 16 (2o) stitches for right sleeve on to holder. There are now 104 (124) stitches on the circular needle. Join yarn and work in Ix1 (k1, p1) rib to 2 sts before frst marker. K2tog or p2tog as needed according to pattern, remove marker, k2tog or p2tog as needed according to pattern. Cont in IxI rib, decreasing I st before and after each marker, removing markers. Cont in IxI rib on remaining 96 (116) sts for 4 inches.
Finishing
BO using backstitch (or “cast-on, cast-off") technique. Cut yarn approximately four times longer than turtleneck circumference (approximately 48") and thread through a tapestry needle. Insert tapestry needle purlwise through first two stitches on knitting needle and pull yarn through. Insert tapestry needle purlwise through frst stitch again. Pull yarn through and drop bound-off stitch from knitting needle. BO all sts in this fashion. Ensure that bind off tension matches that oflive Stitches to maintain flexible edge.
Caring for your sweater
Dry clean, or hand wash in cold water with gentle soap. Do not wring or pull out of shape. Squeeze out excess water, then roll in towels to remove remaining water. Lay garment flat to dry; do not hang. Abbreviations
