Row #1: (RS)K20, p20 Row #2: P20, k20 Repeat Rows #1,2 for approx 4 1/4" Pattern Row #3: (RS) P30, k10 Pattern Row #4: P10, k30 Repeat Pattern Rows #3,4 for 8 rows total Pattern Row #5: (RS) K30, p10 Pattern Row #6: K10, p30 Repeat Pattern Rows #5, 6 for 8 rows total @Joan Wiens 2013, all rights reserved Pattern Row #12: K30, p10 Repeat Pattern Rows #10, 11 for 8 rows total Pattern Row #13: P20, k20 Repeat Pattern Row #13 until total piece measures 17 from beginning. Loosely BO on next row to the last stitch. BUTTONHOLE BAND: (Please read through entire section before knitting) Locate slip stitch along top edge of pillow back. Your buttonhole band will be added to this by picking up both chain loops (slipped stitches at the end of each row) along the edge of pillow back. Measure, and mark with coiless safety pins at 3 /2", 6 /", 10 '", and 13 / from beginning. Entire strip is a garter stitch knit band across 10 stitches. It is joined to the back by slipping the 10th stitch on the needle, picking up a loop of yarn from under the two chain loops of edge stitch, the passing the slip stitch over. The 1st stitch (on non-attached edge) of band is slipped purlwise. NOTE: Every 4th garter row ridge, work the PSSO in the same chain edge stitch as was the 3"d garter row ridge. This helps keep band from pulling work inward too tightly. Buttonholes will be worked into the rows at the markers, as placed above. TO BEGIN BAND: RS facing: Cast on 9 more stitches. Total = 10 stitches on needle. Turn. Row #1: Knit back across to last stitch. Slip last stitch purlwise; then insert needle front to back along the first edge chain stitch of the completed pillow back. Wrap yarn around needle, pull up through both chain loops, then pass slip stitch over (PSSO). Turn. Row #2: Knit back across row. Row #3: Slip first stitch. Knit to last stitch, and PSSO as above in Row #1. Repeat Rows #2,3 until first marker is met. Work buttonhole in row as follows: @Joan Wiens 2013, all rights reserved Slip first stitch. Knit 3. Slip 1 st p-wise, wyif YB, and leave it there for now \*S1 1 p-wise, pass previous st over as with a basic cast-off stitch. Repeat from \* across next two stitches (3 stitches used for buttonhole). Sl last cast-off st back to left needle. Turn work. Bring yarn to back. Cable cast-on three stitches Cable cast on one more stitch, but bring yarn to front before place stitch onto left needle. Turn work. S1 1 stitch k-wise, and pass extra cast-on st over it. Continue knitting to last stitch; PSSO as established in Row #1. Repeat Rows #2,3 until next marker as placed above. Make another buttonhole row. Repeat Row #2,3 along entire edge of back, making buttonhole rows as established at 3 12", 6 /2", 10 /2", and 13 /” from beginning. Bind off all stitches on next row. \*\*AT THE SAME TIME\*\*: Every 2”" of knitting, increase one garter stitch row by repeating Row #3 into the same edge chain stitch as on prior Row #3. After last PSsO stitch has been completed, bind off all 10 stitches on next row.
UPPER BACK
Cast on 10 stitches. Slipping first stitch of every row, work in garter stitch for 74 ridges. BO loosely on next row to the last stitch. Turn 90° to prepare for next row. Set aside for now. ASSEMBLY: @Joan Wiens 2013, all rights reserved Step # 1: Sew blocks of pillow front together, according to the schematic, or order knit. You may use any joining method you prefer. I used a modified 3-needle bindoff, picking up yarn through both layers of loops, then repeating in next loops, then passing the first over the second— just as how it would have been done had the stitches still been on the needles). Step #2: Sew pillow front to pillow back bottom. Step #3: Overlap the garter stitch buttonhole and button bands of both pillow back pieces, and pin together with coiless safety pins. n" pillow over pillow form. If needed, knit more rows to accommodate form Wet block if desired. Insert pillow form, and enjoy!.
