The Instant Beard knitting pattern
Madmonkeyknits pattern no 400 Materials required: Each beard requires one of the following: Sassy Chunky 15g (top pictures) Ice Eyelash 40g (bottom right picture) Patons Whisper dk 20g (bottom left picture) N.B. If using Ice Eyelash or Patons Whisper use 2 strands together. You can use any fancy or eyelash type yarn but use a single strand if it is a chunky yarn and 2 strands at once if it is a d thickness yarn. 1 x pair 4.00 mm knitting needles Approximately 30 cm length elastic per beard Abbreviations: k=knit, p=purl, inc=increase (knit or purl into both front and back of stitch), dec=decrease (knit or purl 2 stitches together), st=stitch, st.st=stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl), tog=together,
Beard
With 4 mm needles and either 1 strand Sassy, 2 strands Ice Eyelash or 2 strands Whisper cast on 8 sts for bottom of beard. Row1-Kinc1 in every st. (16sts) Row2-P. Row3-K but inc1 at both ends of row. (18sts) Row4-P. Row5-6 Repeat Rows3-4. (20sts) Row7-Kinc1,k7,kinc1 four times,k7,kinc1. (26sts) Row8-P. Row9-Kinc1,k8,[kinc1,k1] four times,k8,kinc1. (32sts) Row10-P. Row11-Kinc1,k9,[kinc1,k2] four times,k9,kinc1. (38sts) Row12-P. Row13-Kinc1,k10,[kinc1,k3] four times,k10,kinc1. (44sts) Row14-18 Starting with a p row st.st for 5 rows but inc1 at both ends of every k row. (48sts) Work Mouth Opening Row19-K17,cast off 14 sts,k17. Row20-P17,cast 0n 14 sts,p17. Row21-K but inc1 at both ends of row. (50sts) Row22-P. Row23-24 As Rows21-22. (52sts) Cast off for top of beard. To Make Up: N.B. When using hairy eyelash type yarns what we normally call the wrong side is the right side. 1. Fold cast on edge in half and join seam. 2.0versew all round mouth opening to strengthen and add definition. 3.Sew elastic to each end of cast off edge.
