WORK FEET Row13-Kinc1 six times. (12sts) Row14-P. WORK CLAWS BACK CLAW Row15-K3,T. Continue working on these 3 sts only. Row16-P3. Row17-K3tog. (1 st) Row18-P1 and fasten off. FRONT CLAWS Rejoin yarn. Row15-K3,T. Continue working on these 3 sts only. Row16-P3. Row17-K3. Row18_P3. Row19-K3tog. (1 st) Row20-P1 and fasten off. Work two more claws by repeating Front Claws Rows15-20 twice. WINGS With 8.00 mm needles and 3 strands of Yellow Fancy dk yarn for Big Chick OR 3.00 mm needles and 1 strand for Little Chick cast on 6 sts for top of wing. Row1-K but inc1 at each end of row. (8sts) Row2-P. Row3-Kinc1,k to end of row. (9sts) Row4-P to last st,pinc1. (10sts) Row5-6 Repeat Rows3-4 (12sts) Row7-K but dec1 at each end of row. (10sts) Row8-P. Row9-As Row7. (8sts) Row10-P but dec1 at each end of row. (6sts) Cast off for bottom of wing. Make another piece the same. TO MAKE UP BIG CHICK: HEAD AND BODY 1.With right side facing fold in half and attach safety eyes securely to each side of head, or embroider eyes if not using safety eyes. 2.With wrong side facing run a thread through cast on sts and draw up tight, sew down entire back seam to cast off edge. 3.Stuff head firmly, then stuff rest of body. 4.Sew centre point of cast off edge to end of seam thereby making two leg holes.

1.Sew all round edge of beak to add definition. 2.Fold in half and sew in place just below eyes. WINGS 1.Sew wings in place at either side of body. LEGS 1. Fold over sharp ends of each end of pipecleaner for safety reasons. 2.Bend pipecleaner back about claw length so that claw has a double thickness of pipecleaner.

3.Carefully bind pipecleaner with spare Orange yarn then wrap claw round pipecleaner and sew down claw seam.

4.Repeat for other 3 claws. 5.At foot twist the 4 pipecleaners together, then bend over any excess pipecleaner so that it fits exactly in leg.. 6.Bend over 5th pipecleaner at both ends then bend a couple of times so that it is exactly the length of the leg only. 7.Place on top of the existing pipecleaner leg and bind tightly with excess Orange yarn,then sew up leg seam. 8.Bend 3 front claws to face forwards and back claw to face backwards,.


9.Bend back claw in half and sew tightly to keep bent back position.

10.Bend claws to stand flat and bend leg to lean slightly back,

11.Insert top of leg into leg hole and sew all round to keep secure. 12.Repeat for other leg ensuring balanced so that chick can stand. TO MAKE UP LITTLE CHICK: Use exactly the same method for head and body,beak and wings as for Big Chick. LEGS 1.Cut pipecleaners in half giving you 8 x 6 inch pieces. Fold over sharp ends for safety reasons. 2.Carefully bind pipecleaner with spare Orange yarn then wrap back claw round pipecleaner and sew down claw seam. Repeat for other 3 front claws. 3.At foot twist the 4 pipecleaners together then sew up leg seam,bending over any excess pipecleaner inside before closing cast on edge. 4.Bend claws to stand flat and bend leg to lean slightly back, 5.Insert top of leg into leg hole and sew all round to keep secure. 6.Repeat for other leg ensuring balanced so that chick can stand.
