A simple triangle shawlette, you can make it as small or large as you like, with any yarn weight or fibre and appropiate hook for desired drape. Just remember that some fibers stretch more than others, please take this into account for the final stretching and blocking. Sample in photo was made using Astor, by Filati Deluxe, a cotton/acrylic, sport weight yarn, and a 5.5 mm hook. It was steam-blocked with a steam iron. USA terms and abbreviations used. Abbreviations: sl st : slip stitch ch : chain sc : single crochet dc : double crochet rep : repeat sp : space sh : shell st : stitch tch : turning chain
Special stitches:
Shell: (dc 2, ch 1, dc 2) all in specified st or sp. Picot : ( sc, ch 3, sl st into sc just made, sc) all in specified st or sp. Picot 4: Same as “picot", but making ch 4 instead of ch 3.
Special terms:
1: “in tch", this means to make the st at the top of the tch 2: “in sh", this means to make the st/sh in the ch-1 sp of sh from previous row. Row 1: Ch 4, sl st to close. (Ch 3, dc 2, ch 1, dc 3) all in circle. Turn. Optional start: Ch 5, dc 2 in 4th ch from hook; ch 1, dc 3 in last dc. Turn. Row 2: Ch 3, sh in next ch-1 sp, sh in tch. Turn. Row 3: Ch 3, sh in sh, ch 1, sh in sh, dc in tch. Turn. Row 4: Ch 3, sh in sh, ch 1, sh in sh, sh in tch. Turn. Row 5: Ch 3, sh in sh, (ch 1, sh in sh) across to end, dc in tch. Turn. 1 3, sh in sh, (ch 1, sh in sh) across to end, sh in tch. Turn Next rows: Rep rows 5-6 until desired size. End on a Row 5, with an odd number of shells. Turn.
Edging:
E Row 1: Ch 4, sc in sp between 1st dc and sh; (ch 3, sc in sh, ch 3, sc in ch-1 sp between shs) across to last shell, ending with ch 3, sc in sh, ch 3; (sc, ch 3, sc) in tch. Turn. E Row 2: (Ch 3, dc 2, ch 1, dc 3) in 1st ch-3 sp; ch 1, sc in next sc, ch 1, [skip next ch-3 sp, (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, skip next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, ch 1]. Rep [] across to ch-4 sp (this is the upper tip of your project). (Dc 4, ch 1, dc 4) in ch-4 sp, ch 1; do not turn, rotate to work along the other side of your project. \*\*Sc in the next tch , ch 1, (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) around the post of the next dc, ch 1 \*\*. Rep \*\*_\*\* across, ending with (dc 3, ch 1, dc 3) around the post of the last dc, ch 1, sc into starting loop. Turn. NOTE: Please refer to Chart 3 for alternate end. E Row 3: Ch 3, picot in sh, ch 4, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp; [ch 4, picot in next sh, ch 4, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp]. Rep [] across to tip , but making (ch 5, picot 4, ch 5) in the “"big" sh; sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp. Continue rep [] to end, making a sl st in top of tch. Finish off.
