"Little Lily'

Size: 9 - 18 months Gauge: 6 st and 9 rows per inch (slightly stretched) Needles: 2.5mm - (2 circulars or set of dpns as preferred) Yarn: Fingering weight sock yarn (25g) Toe: Using your preferred toe-up cast on method such as 'Turkish' or Judy's Magic Cast on (see references in notes at the end of the pattern), cast on a total of16 stitches (8 on each needle). Knit across the stitches on each needle once. Increase round (on both Needle 1 and 2): K1, M1, knit to the last stitch, M1, K1 Knit round: Knit across all stitches Repeat these two rounds until you have a total of 44 stitches - 22 stitches on each needle (or however divided for dpns for instep and sole) Begin working 'lily pattern' as follows: Needle 1: (instep stitches) work across pattern chart over the 22 stitches Needle 2: (sole stitches) Knit across Above = a complete round Work 28 complete rounds of the pattern (ending after working round 4 of pattern) Gusset: Begin gusset increases on the next and following 5 rounds - keeping pattern continuity across the instep stitches. - K1, M1 knit to last stitch, M1, K1 You should now have 34 stitches on needle 2 (sole) and 22 stitches on needle 1 (instep) Next round - knit across instep sts in pattern, knit across sole sts Next round - knit across instep sts in pattern, knit 10 sole sts, K1, Kfb, K11, W&T Turn the Heel: You will now work back and forth on the stitches on needle 2 (sole) and will not knit the stitches on Needle 1 whilst turning the heel. Turn the heel as follows Row 1: (ws) p1, pfb, purl 9, w&t Row 2: k1, kfb, knit 8, w&t Row 3: p1, pfb, purl 7, w&t Row 4: k1. kfb, knit 6, w&t Row 5: p1, pfb, purl 5, w&t Row 6: k1, kfb, knit 4, w&t


Heel Flap: Row 1: p1, pfb, p9, p2tog, turn (without wrapping) Row 2: sl1, \* K1, S1 repeat from \* to stitch before the gap (11 stitches before end of row this time, then it will be easy to see the gap on following rows), SSK, turn Row 3: Sl1, purl to last stitch before gap, P2tog, turn Repeat row 2 and 3 until all gusset stitches have been taken into the heel flap. Needle 2 now holds 22 sts again. Begin working in the round again keeping continuity of the lily pattern. (You should be starting with round 1 on the pattern across both needles). Work two full pattern repeats then work round 1 of the pattern. Knit across all stitches for 5 rounds Next round: K2tog, YO across the round Knit across all stitches for 4 rounds Bind off. Turn sock inside out and sew the picot edge in place Weave in ends.

Key Abbreviations: K- Knit Kfb - Knit in the front and back of the next stitch M1- make 1 P- Purl P2Tog - purl 2 together Pfb- purl in the front and back of the next stitch SSK - slip the next two stitches, insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position (through back of loops) Sl - slip stitch W&T - wrap and turn. Bring yarn to front of work between needles, slip next stitch to right-hand need yO - yarn over

Pattern is written for 2 circular needles. If using DPNs divide the stitches between the needles. Needle 1 refers to the instep stitches and Needle 2 to the sole/heel stitches When you work the 'make 1' increases at the toe and in the gusset, use whichever method you prefer - lifted increase or knit in the front and back of stitch.
