Draped, cropped, lightweight cardigan with 3/4 sleeves in cotton and rayon. Yarn: MC: Ironstone's Sky yarn, in color 05. 3[4,4,5,5] balls (70 yds (64 m)/60 g, 70% cotton/30% rayon) CC (front and sleeves): Stella Filo di Scozia's Ne 8/5 yarn, in color 630. 2[2,2,3,3] skeins (289 yds (265 m)/100 g, 100% cotton) Note: The CC yarn listed above is made in Italy and may only be available in Europe. An excellent substitute is Kertzer Butterfly Cotton in dk weight, same number ofskeins. Gauge: 15 St./18 rows = 4" in. (10 cm) Stockinette stitch on size #10.5 US (6.5 mm) needles, knit in the flat in MC yarn. Size: XS[S,M,L,XL,XXL] Construction notes: This sweater was hand knit using #10.5 US Addi Turbo 40" long circular needles. The body of the sweater is a rectangle, knit in the flat, in Stockinette stitch. The sleeves are picked up from holes in the body and knit in the round using the magic loop method. In MC, CO 60[60,62,64,66,68] st. Beginning 0n a RS row, work 50[54,56,60,64,66] rows in St. st. On next row (RS), K11, BO 24[24,25,26,27,28], K to end. On next row (WS), P25[25,26,27,28,29], turn and CO 24[24,25,26,27,28], then turn to face WS again and K remaining 11 st. You have just created the right arm hole. Work another 72[74,76,78,80,82] rows in St. st. On next row (RS), K11, BO 24[24,25,26,27,28], K to end. On next row (WS), P25[25,26,27,28,29], turn and CO 24[24,25,26,27,28], then turn to face WS again and K remaining 11 st. You have just created the left arm hole. Work 4 more rows in MC, then break yarn. Switch to CC and work another 36[40,42,46,50,52] rows in St. st. On next row (RS), K 11, BO 3\*, K to end. On next row (WS), P 46[46,48,50,52,54], turn and CO 3, turn to face WS again and P remaining 11 stitches. Youhave justmadethe outsidebutton hole. Work an additional 8 rows St. st. BO.
Sleeves (make 2):
Pick up 56[56,58,60,62,64] stitches around the armhole (24[2425,26,27,28] on each side plus 4 at the shoulder and 4[under the arm for a total of 56[56,58,60,62,64] evenly spaced all the way around). K around using CC, pm, and join. On next round, \*K5[5,5,5,5,6], K2tog\* until 0[0,2,4,6,0] stitches before the end of the round, the K remaining stitches. Your round should now have 48[48,50,52,54,56] stitches. On next round, K even. On next round, begin the following pattern within the brackets, and repeat the whole pattern 9[9,10,11,11,12] times: [R1: K2tog, K until 2 stitches before end of round, SSK. R2-9[9,8,7,7,7]: K even] Please note, the final round number and pattern number in brackets correspond to the size you are knitting. For example, if you are making a size M, each pattern repeat will have 8 rounds, and you will repeat the pattern 10 times. K an additional 2[2,3,6,6,0] rounds. B0 loosely.
Finishing:
Work in any loose ends. Block or iron flat so that front and back drape smoothly. Sew hook onto the inside of the sweater, just in front of the right arm hole (see picture below). Sew the button onto the outside of the MC front section, approximately 6" to center of button from the CO edge, and approximately 4.5” to center of button below the top edge of the sweater, as measured when laid flat. The diameter of the button on the sample shown is 1-3/8".
