Reversible Cabled Scarf Crochet Pattern with Baby Alpaca Grande Yarn by Elisa Purnell

REVERSIBLE CABLED SCARF

by Elisa Purnell Copyright February 2007 I use this pattern to teach cabling techniques to beginning crochet students. It's quick, easy and the super-soft Baby Alpaca Grande makes a luscious scarf. For an added bonus, you'll get a different cable pattern on each side.

Materials:

·Three skeins (two of main color; one of secondary color) Plymouth Yarn's Baby Alpaca Grande, 110 yards each Size “P" and “K" crochet hook, or size needed for gauge

Stitches used:

Hdc - Half Double Crochet: Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, draw up loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through all3 loops. FPdc - Front Post Double Crochet: Yarn over, insert hook around post of stitch indicated (from front to back to front), yarn over, pullup a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, work off 2 loops, yarn over, work off last 2 loops. ·BPdc- Back Post Double Crochet: Yarn over,insert hook behind post of stitch indicated (from back to front to back), yarn over, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, work off 2 loops, yarn over, work offlast 2 loops.

Pattern:

·With larger hook, ch 12. Dc in $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ chain from hook, dc in each chain across. Ch 2, turn. ·Row 1: FPdc around post of next dc, BPdc around post of next 2 dc, FPdc around post of next 2 dc, BPdc around post of next 2 dc, FPdc around post of next dc, hdc in top of original chain 4. Ch 2, turn. Row 2: BPdc around next stitch, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next 2 stitches, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next stitch, hdc in top of ch 2. Ch 2, turn. Row 3: FPdc around next stitch, BPdc around next 2 stitches, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next 2 stitches, FPdc around next stitch, hdc in top of ch 2. Ch 2, turn. Rows 4 - 11: Alternate Row 2 and Row 3, ending with Row 2. Row 12: Repeat Row 3. Do NOT ch2 at end. Do NOT cut yarn. Note: carry unused yarn loosely along side. · Row 13: Attach new color, ch 2 (with new color), turn. BPdc around next stitch, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next 2 stitches, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next stitch, hdc in top of ch 2. Ch 2, turn. Row 14: Repeat Row 3. Row 15: BPdc around next stitch, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next 2 stitches, FPdc around next 2 stitches, BPdc around next stitch, hdc in top of ch 2. Do NOT ch2 at end. · Row 16: Bring up original yarn, ch 2. Leaving enough to weave in later, cut unused yarn. FPdc around post of next stitch, BPdc around post of next 2 stitch, FPdc around post of next 2 stitch, BPdc around post of next 2 stitch, FPdc around post of next stitch, hdc in top of ch 2. Ch 2, turn. Repeat Rows 2- 16 until almost desired length, then repeat Rows 2 - 12 once more. Do not turn, do not fasten off.

Border:

With smaller hook and working along side of work, ch1, \*sc evenly to corner, 3 sc in corner\*, repeat from \* to \* around, ending with slip stitch in first ch 1. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
