Victorian Hearts Crochet Pattern by Shelley Husband - Detailed 30 cm Square Design with Color Change Instructions

Pattern illustration

30 cm (12") block

Materials :

I used a 4 mm hook and 8 ply acrylic yarns to make the pictured square. I do tend to crochet small so you may need to adjust your hook and/or yarn size to make the square to 30 cm (12") I have included a gauge picture at round 4.

Notes :

The pattern is written to start most rounds with 3 ch in place of a tr. I like to start with a false tr instead. Here is a link to how to do this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi3RR070CvQ It is fiddly when you first try, but I think the result is worth persevering for. I have written the pattern for colour changes, and also for a single colour throughout. When adding new colours, attach the yarn to a different point to where you finished off your last colour. It will need blocking. At some points you may think there is no way this will end up square, but trust me - it does all pull together.

Stitches :

ch = chain tr = treble crochet ss = slip stitch beg v st = (3ch, 6ch, tr) in same space dc = double crochet v st = (tr, 6ch, tr) in same space htr = half treble crochet st ch = starting chain
