Stock Photo Hat

While browsing some online articles, I saw a hat like this in a stock photo. I decided to do my best to recreate it. Techniques needed to complete this hat include: long-tail cast on, Russian join, and jogless stripes. These linked videos helped me learn the techniques. Yarn: Super bulky in 5 colors. I used Rowan Big Wool: Smoky (07), Prize (64), Cloud (60), Oxidised (59), Burnt Orange (51) Needles: US size 15 circulars (16") AND US size 11 (circulars with long cable for magic loop or DPNs), tapestry needle for Russian joins. To begin, cast on 52 stitches in charcoal (Smoky). (I used a long-tail cast on.) Place marker and join. Purl 1 row Knit 1 row Purl 1 row Knit 1 row Join pink (Prize) (l used a Russian join, always starting at about 3-4 stitches prior to the stitch marker to give room to pull the end through. This eliminates the need to weave in a lot of ends later.) Purl1row (At this point, use "Jogless Stripe Technique" (JST) to pick up the right arm of charcoal stitch in the row below, and knit 2 together with 1't pink stitch on left needle. Do this for every subsequent color change.) Knit 2rows Join light blue (Cloud) Purl 1 row (JST) Knit 2 rows Join gray (Oxidised) Purl 1 row (JST) Knit 3 rows Join light blue (Cloud) Purl 1 row (JST) Knit 2 rows Join orange (Burnt Orange) Purl 1 row (JST) Knit 2 rows Join light blue (Cloud) Purl 1 row (JST) Knit 2 rows Join charcoal (Smoky) to begin decreases (52 stitches) (Purl 2, Purl 2 together)\* repeat around (39 stitches) (JST) Knit 2 rows Join pink (Prize) (Purl 1, Purl 2 together)\* repeat around (26 stitches) Next rows - switch to size 11 needles with long cable (for magic loop) or DPNs (JST) Knit 2 rows
Join light blue (Cloud)
