DIRECTIONS

Cowl is knit flat sideways from a provisional cast on and finished with a three needle bind off to form a circle. Using the provisional cast on of your choice, cast on 92 stitches. Crochet cast on can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3J-sUx whE

And my favorite method (because I am too lazy to get up & find a crochet hook) may be found here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXp8rUNxJtY If using chart, begin at lower right hand side with row 1. On this (and subsequent RS rows) work from right to left, working sts 1 & 2 once, repeating sts 3 - 8 fourteen times, and working sts 9 -14 once. On row 2 (and subsequent WS rows) work from left to right, working sts 14 - 9 once, repeating sts 8 -3 fourteen times, and working sts 2 & 1 once. These divisions are denoted by vertical red lines. Continue to work up the chart in this manner. Upon completion of row 8 (WS), return to row 1 (RS) and repeat.

Written Directions

Rows 1 & 3 (rs): k2,\*k1, p2, k3; rep from \* to last six sts. K1, p2, k3. Rows 2 & 4 (ws): (k2, p1) twice, \* p3, k2, p1; rep from \* to last 2 sts. k2. Rows 5 & 7 (rs): k2,\*k4, p2; rep from \* to last six sts. K6. Rows 6 & 8 (ws): \*k2, p4; rep from \* to last 2 sts. k2. Upon completion of row 8 (WS), return to row 1 (RS) and repeat.

When you have completed 28 repeats (224 rows), leave live stitches on your needle. Do not bind off. Do not cut yarn.

Finishing

Carefully remove provisional cast on & move stitches to additional needle. be mindful of the direction from which you transfer your stitches onto the needle. Make sure you have the same number of stitches on each needle. Do three needle bind off as follows: Hold your 2 needles so that both right sides are held together. With 3rd needle, knit one stitch through the next stitch on both needles at the same time. Repeat last action, knitting the next stitch through the stitches on both needles. Then pull the first stitch over the second stitch, just as you would for a standard bind off. Repeat across the row until all stitches are bound off.

Weave in ends. Do not block (ensures maximum cush!)

Construction Notes: This pattern is easily modified by adding or subtracting repeats. If modifying depth (from top to bottom) simply add or subtract reps of 6 sts from the stitch count. If modifying circumference, add or subtract reps of 8 rows from the row count. This pattern looks good from both sides, so feel free to mix it up.

Remember: always turn your face to the sun!
