Little Gems Half Mitts
My inspiration for these mitts started with the completion of my Buttons Squared Chapeau. I began to think about a mitt to go with the hat and I wanted something very girly. I thought the hat, though classic was very feminine. When I thought girly, I thought ruffles and these little "Gems" were born.

Abbreviations: dpn = double pointed needles, k = knit, LH = left hand, p = purl, pm = place marker, psso = pass slipped stitch over, RH = right hand, Rnd(s) = round(s), sl1 = slip one stitch, sm = slip marker, st(s) = stitches, tog = together
Pattern Notes
+To get the desired size, measure your writing hand at the widest point, just below your knuckles, around your palm. Choose the size closest to your measurement, remembering that the objective of this design is to have a slightly snug fit, but not tight. \* Youth is 7 to 12 years / XS 12 + years. \*I have used both the long tail and knitted cast on methods for these mitts; I prefer the long tail for the clean edgelook. \*I added one stitch to the cast on number to begin the mitt in the round. This is explained in the tip given after completing the cuff. \* The cuff is knit in a seed st pattern; first row and all odd rows, are k1, p1, all even rows, are reversed so tha you will p into a k st and k into a p stitch. M1R Make a right-leaning increase by picking up the bar between stitches from back to front and knitting into the front of the picked-up stitch. M1L Make a left-leaning increase by picking up the bar between stitches from front to back and knitting into the back of the picked-up stitch.
