Size 6 (4 mm) 16" circular needle and set of 4 dpn. Notions 8 place markers Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
18 sts and 32 rows = 4" in garter stitch
Directions
CO 68 sts in MC and join to work in the round. Place marker (pm) at beg of row. Work 6 rows in Garter St, starting with a P row. Begin stitch pattern (see chart).
Row 1: [k1 in MC, k1 in CC] rep to end. Row 2: In CC [kl, pl] rep to end. Row 3: As for row 1. Row 4: In MC [p1, k1] rep to end. Row 5: As for row 1. Row 6: p in CC to end. Row 7: As for row 1. Row 8: As for row 4. Row 9: As for row 1. Row 10: As for row 2. Row 1l: As for row 1. Row 12: p in MC to end. These 12 rows form the stitch pattern. ch pattern until the piece measures about 6" (15 cm) from CO edge. Dec Row 1. [Maintaining sitch pattern, work 15 sts, ssk] rep 3 more times. 64 sts remain. Next row: Work in stitch pattern. Switch to dpn. Dec Row 2: [Maintaining stitch pattern, work 6 sts, ssk, pm] rep 7 more times. 56 sts remain. Next row: Work in stitch pattern. Continue working decreases every other row. On Dec Rows decrease a stitch before each marker, as in Dec Row 2, until 16 sts remain. Break CC yarn and tuck end inside hat. Switch to MC to finish.
