ChiwaluvAmigurumiCritters 2012 Sherry Moore Our Story: Not to long ago a sweet little Red Dapple Dachshund puppy, came to live at our home, having raised many pups from a very young age, I soon discovered the extreme Anxiety that this breed can exhibit. She (Lucy B.T.W.) Would absolutely freak out , if I left a room, more so than normal puppies. If I was out of sight the barking and whining would commence, and it took about 30 mins, to settle her down when I would return to her. All the while whimpering, and whining ... Not wanting this to be a habit that continued into her adulthood, we started, penny can training, water bottle training, any and every method in the book, nothing seemed to work for the anxiety of being left alone... (The ,penny can did help some with the barking, however, we were left with an extreme whining dog! ) Yes, I almost went insane, it was this bad! Then I began to read online about swaddling therapy , (Like we do for our human babies) may also help with thunder, lightning and firework fears, trips in the car to the vets and groomer . This practice does not work with every dog, and may not work for your dog, but it has an 80% calming success for Lucy. She no longer whines, barks, or goes crazy when I leave the room, or get a visit from a neighbor or friend, its that good! :o) Happy puppy, happy human mommy! So I knitted up this little swaddling sweater for my little darling, and she is now a different pup entirely. Give it a try, if you are having issues with your pup, all your cost is, is less than a skein of Vanna's Choice yarn!;o) And a lot less expensive than the \$40 Thundershirt...however, if you got the bucks, by all means check them out, they are really neat!
