Once There Was a Baby Blanket By: Caitlin ffrench (my name is ffrench on ravelry.com) Yarn Used:Sirdar Big Softie #330 (10 Balls) Needles: 10-15mm 32" Circular needles My gauge gets me closer to a 15mm needle, but you should knit this in a gauge that works for you. Blanket Body: Cast on 48 stitches. Knit in garder stitch for 3.5 feet. Bind off (I knit until I had used 8 balls of the yarn, which is equal to 360 meters) Fan and Feather variation border: Pick up the 42 center stitches at the top of the work. Row 1: \*K2tog, K2tog, KFB, KFB\* Repeat this until the end of the row Row 2:Purl all stitches. (I repeated these two rows three times. You can repeat them as much or little as you'd like) Bind off. Repeat thesameforthebottom oftheblanket. You now have fan and feather at the top and bottom of the blanket. Now you are going to pick up the stitches starting right beside the end of the top of the fan and feather variation, and continuing along the enire side of the work and down around the edge of the bottom of the work. I picked up 66 stiches along mine, but you may pick up more or less depending on how many rows you knit. (Pick them up in multiples of 6) Now do the same thing on the other side of the blanket. Stitch together the four edges of the Fan and Feather variation. Weave in the ends. Now you're done! Now you can add a lovely dark purple ribbon if you'd like! Note: This blanket can be made larger quite easily. Just cast on more stitches, and knit it until it is as long as you'd like. You can do it with a lighter yarn, and smaller needles. Just use a needle that is recommended for the yarn you're using.
