Slip 1st st to the RH needle Start (yarn felting test)

CO 15 sts and using size 7 US needles (4.5 mm) knit 17 rows in main pattern, cast off at RS. Measure the swatch - it should be 7,5 cm in width and 7,5 cm in length (Figure 1). Felt the knit sample, measure again, the width now of your swatch is 6.5 cm and length came to 5.5 cm (Figure 2).

Main part (instructions for the left slipper is given in parenthesis in bold) Pick up 43 sts as it is shown on the Figure 3 (3.1) by picking out 1 st out of 2 sts, k12 from the waste yarn, pick up 43 sts, remove provisional yarn and k6 (5) sts of the sole, put a st marker (this will be your marker for the beginning of rounds in main part). Rem 5 (6) sts goes to the 1"t round. Count your stitches - 109 sts intotal.

Knit 5 rounds from the st marker in st st (knit al sts), fold them as it is shown on the photo tutorial on Page 2. Work one round in \*k1, p1\* to the last st, k1. Fold 67 (30) sts, sl4 to RH needle, fold 30 (67). R1: k31 (30), \*k1, p1\* 20 times, k30 (31), break off the yarn. Using 3.5 mm crochet hook, go around the rectangle and close 31 (30) sts (refer to Figures 4-7 on Page 5), slip 40 sts to the RH needle, close rem 30 (31) sts, weave in the yarn tail. Now you have only 40 sts on yourneedles.

Step 1 (OPTIONAL): pre-felting your project by hands.
Take 2 tubs and fill one with very hot water you can stand in rubber gloves, another tub fill with cold water. Add into the tub with hot water a small amount of detergent (l used dishwashing gel) and start mashing and rolling your slippers there one by one, 5 min in hot water - 1 min in cold. I used a regular washboard to fasten the felting. At first your slippers will be geting bigger, but in 10-15 minutes you will see that the felting begins and slippers start to shrink. Pre-felt your slippers for 15-20 minutes.
Step 2: felt slippers in washing machine.
Set your washing machine to hot washing cycle with cold rinse and fastest spin cycle possible. If you have a top-load machine you can choose the lowest water level - it is great, it will give you the possibility to check the felting process constantly. I used 60° wash cycle (Celcium) for I have a front-load machine and I couldn't open it for checking. Wet your slippers and add some detergent (I used dishwashing gel) into each slipper, add another spoon of detergent into washing machine, put your slippers together with old pair of clean jeans and launch the wash cycle. Depending on yarm and personal preferences, felting may take up to 2 hours (as my project took - I used 3 interrupted cycles, hot wash for 20 min, cold rinse for 20 and fast spin). Felt your slippers till the length of sole (without “horizontal borders") measures 24.5 (25, 25.5) cm correspondingly for each size. As for bows, I preferred to felt them by hands@. Again, it's optional.
Step 3: finishing.
Sew the button into the center of bow and attach it to the slipper. Each slipper has little part without "horizontal border" - this is the place for a bow.

Enjoy your new slippers!
