Materials
yarn Main Colour (MC): Patons Shetland Chunky (100 grams 148 yards) 2 balls in Red Robin Contrast A (A): Bernat Tizzy (52 grams 100 yards) 1 ball in Marshmallow white Pompom: Approximately 10m of generic white yarn Needles 6mm x 16" circular needle One set of 6mm Double Pointed Needles Needle size may be adjusted to obtain gauge Notions stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors, card stock Gauge 14sts and 12 rows for a 4" square Size 20" x 36" from cuff to tip of hat (not including the pompom)
NOTES:

Cuff was completed in a 2x2 rib. The stiches are difficult to see and the rib is lost in the yarn but it allows for a bit of stretch in the stiches. Garter stitch may be substituted for the ribbing. Tizzy is not recommended for making the pompom. The yarn pulls apart too easily and does not make a neatly finished pompom. Change from circular to DPN's when stitches become toostretched toworkcomfortably in decreasing rounds.

Using A cast on 68 sts on circular needles join in the round being careful not to twist stiches. PM at the beginning of the round. This is needed due to the fluffiness of the yarn. Finishing
Weave in all ends. For the pompom, cut 2 circles from thick card stock with a 3-3/8" outer diameter and inner diameter of 1”" (a tissue paper box works well for this), see template below. Take a long legnth, approximately 10 yards, of white yarn and fold twice (folding the yarn saves a lot of time making the pompom). Stack the two circles together to create your template. Wrap the yarn around the ring of the pompom template unitl there are 3-5 layers, this will fill out more than expected when complete. Place sharp scissors between template halfs and cut all strands of yarn covering the outer edge. Take a 10" piece of the white yarn and tie a tight knot around all strands remaining between the pompom templates. Slide templates off pompom and trim if desired but DO NOT cut the strands used to knot the pompom, they will be used to secure the pompom to the hat. Attach pompom to tuque using tie legnths. Weave in ends. Stitch Glossary DPN: Double Pointed Needles inc: increase 1 stitch k: knit k2tog: knit 2 stitches together p: purl PM: Place Marker
