SUGGESTED YARNS:
·WOOLganics Organic Merino 8ply/DK (100% organic merino; 113yd [103m]/50g). -White Gum Wool 8ply (100% ethical superfine merino; 258yd [236m]/100g). ·Jo Sharp Classic DK wool (100% wool; 107yd [98m]/50g). Sample shown in hand-dyed woOLganics Organic Merino 8ply and Jo Sharp Classic DK wool 'Cape'.

YARDAGE:
110 to 220 yards/100 to 205 metres approximately.
TENSION:
22 stitches and 30 rounds = 4" in stocking stitch on 4mm/US#6 needles (or size required to gain correct tension). It is advisable to swatch in the round and adjust your needles accordingly to ensure you maintain a consistent tension throughout this project.
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS:
·US#6/4mm: 16"/40cm circular and double pointed needles (dpns) (or size required for tension). ·US#3/3.25mm: 16"/40cm circular (or three needle sizes smaller than size required for tension). ·4 stitch markers. ·darning needle.

ABBREVIATIONS:
dpns double pointed needles. k knit. k2tog knit 2 stitches together p purl. slipm slip marker. sm stitch marker. SOR Start of Round. st/s stitch/es.

BRIM:
Using your US#3/3.25mm needle, cast on 56 (64, 72, 76, 80, 88, 96, 100, 104) sts. Join in the round being careful not to twist sts. Place sm to indicate SOR. Work 2x2 rib (k2, p2) for 16 (18, 18, 22, 22, 26, 26, 28, 30) rounds.
HAT BODY:
Switch to US#6/4mm needles. Knit 8 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 20) rounds of stocking stitch. Next round: Knit placing sms every 14 (16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 26) sts to divide hat into four.
CROWN SHAPING:
Switch to dpns or magic loop when the knitting becomes too tight. Decrease round: \*k2tog, knit to sm, slipm; repeat from \* until end of round. Knit 2 rounds. Repeat decrease round every 3 rounds until st count is reduced to 8. Transfer the 8 sts left on the needle to one dpn and knit as for an i-cord for approx. 1"/2.5cm. Tail Round: \*k2tog; repeat from \* until end of round. (4 sts) Round 2: knit. Round 3: k2tog twice. (2 sts) Round 4: k2tog (1 st)
FINISHING:
Pull yarn through loop and tie off. Wrap yarn around hand many times to form tassel. Wrap yarn around the tassel end near the hat several times to secure. Cut yarn, secure the tassel and trim ends of tassel. Weave in ends and block.
